— Pein continues to discover and feel different emotions along the way, which confuses him greatly. He considers emotions pesky at the fact that they can get in the way of his purpose, and he doesn’t want to try and understand them. The only emotion he feels capable of controlling is pain, and any others are useless to him and toward most shinobi. There are a few exceptions, because he does want to be able to trust his organization and care for them.
