my biggest problem with the whole ultimate self thing with dirk is that while i think the way he currently acts as an antagonist is in-character for him, him getting to this point the way he did was not. one of the most prominent features of dirk's character was that he hated himself, didn't think he was deserving of the relationships he had, and blamed himself for just about any thing he could blame himself for. (1/2)
(2/2) like he literally felt guilty for being gay bc roxy had feelings for him and he couldn't "give her what she needed." i seriously don't think he would do something that fucked over everyone in his life on this grand of a scale for almost entirely self-serving interests.
I am in agreement. I can see him in an antagonist role but not without that internal friction which was inherent to the character. I think they dumped that intentionally though as they are wont to do, bc of how Ultimate Selves work, basically meaning For Plot Reasons? If they wanted to develop it they would have to resuscitate it in some way and then explain the methodology of that, right.
But also I’m kinda banned by my own PTSD from even reading the epilogues/hs^2 properly because of the triggering content so my specific takes on that sort of thing are always gonna be partial shots in the dark. Ha, officially Disclaimer’d! Now no one can hold me to any of my bullshit yammering. It’s the perfect fucking crime.
