I think my favourite line in season 2 is crowley's "he's far too pure of heart to be anybody's bit on the side" because any time we get to hear the way crowley talks about aziraphale to other people is a joy, but also it's just so genuine and full of so much love. he's not speaking about aziraphale with any agenda, he's just speaking off the cuff. it's ridiculously sweet. it's also hilarious because it's crowley's immediate reaction to nina suggesting that they're casually sleeping together and crowley's like, um no, we're not, but fyi if we were I would be treating him right!

It's even better because it would be SO easy to have him downplay how much he likes Aziraphale to everyone he talks to, and not even in a romantic sense.

In a show that cared less about its characters, he would be playing up how very suave and very cool he is and hiding his feelings by calling Aziraphale a dweeb and making jokes at his expense to the people around them. I mean yes, he does that with Aziraphale himself, but it's always done in a gentle, familiar tease.

But with everyone else? He doesn't even try to hide how much he adores him, how clever and special and funny and interesting he finds him. It's so deliciously sweet and earnest, but never in a way that feels overly sappy either. It's just a matter of enjoying the person you love.

You can’t deserve a person’s love. You’ll drive yourself crazy thinking like that. They either love you, or they don’t. That doesn’t mean you weren’t good enough for them to love you, because love isn’t something you earn by being good enough. It isn’t something that can be quantified or doled out. Don’t blame yourself for not being loved how you need to, just teach yourself how to look for love where love lives.

This isn’t just about romantic love, or even skewed towards romantic love, although it does apply there too. One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to accept is that my mother simply wasn’t someone who was capable of loving me, and there is no version of me that I could have ever been that would have earned that love. But with acceptance came healing. I was able to love myself more instead of resenting myself for not being more than any one person could be.

GOOD OMENS S2 SPOILERS

so the thing that REALLY hurts me about the entire final exchange between crowley and aziraphale is this moment—

where aziraphale has just told crowley that he said yes to heaven because the metatron said aziraphale could bring crowley with him, make him an angel again, make him one of the “good guys” again.

and crowley puts his glasses back on, retreating behind this shield. putting a physical wall between them.

and it hurts so bad because crowley has never felt the need to hide from aziraphale before. he’s never felt the need to be anything less than himself with his angel, and yet knowing that aziraphale not only said yes to heaven (after they had finally gotten to the point where crowley thought they were on their OWN side), but that he said yes because he wants to change crowley (at least from crowley’s perspective) makes him retreat, and he puts those walls that we’ve seen being slowly whittled away at by aziraphale for the past 6,000 years right back up.

you can see the moment aziraphale knows he’s lost crowley here, too. he knows that crowley putting those glasses on is a final sort of move. and aziraphale still smiles, he still hopes that maybe he’s wrong and maybe crowley will let aziraphale do the saving this time (because that’s what aziraphale thinks he’s doing by saying yes to the metatron—he was fully prepared to say no to heaven until it was made clear that he could bring crowley with him).

it’s just all so. GOD DAMN GOOD.
