how do i even start gathering knowledge and learning about helpol? are there any books or articles about it? or do i just dig on tumblr and hope that the info i find is reliable? i don’t know much about helpol as i was raised in a catholic society and household
tumblr can be an okay resource, but overall i would recommend avoiding social media for information especially as a beginner. good resources are theoi.com (information about deities & epithets), hellenion.org (information about holidays/festivals, etc.), hellenicfaith.com (information about beliefs & practices). here are some masterlists of resources:
beginner's guide to hellenic polytheism by @/wisdom-devotee
beginner helpol resources by @/seasaltdevotion
grimore - hellenic polythesim by @/crazycatsiren
subtle deity worship masterlist by @/khaire-traveler
hermes' library by @/athenaeum-of-the-herald
information about mythic literalism by @/khaire-traveler
there are also some youtubers i would recommend as resources, but right now i'm boycotting yt so i'll recommend people who are also on insta/other socials (links to their linktrees):
calla of the redgrove
laurusamystic
angelica cresci (<- not strictly helpol but is a devotee of hades (& persephone i believe?) so she is good for resources/info on them if you are interested)
there are also discord servers out there that are good for getting info because you can ask questions from people & get lots of info from other helpols. i wouldn't recommend the helpol reddit (r/hellenism) myself as in my experience it has a lot of misinformation.
hope these help, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask! the best things to do are learn about some deities, learn about praying, learn about things like xenia and other "pillars" of hellenic polytheism. just remember: you should be looking for the best way for you to practice this religion. there are very few "rules" or no-nos, and making the gods mad is very difficult to do. (especially if you are a beginner. they understand.)
gods bless!
