So what’s happening in the wonderful world of trunk this week?
First and foremost, we’re all individually do what we need to to remain safe, maintain our required social distancing practices, keep clean and to help those living locally that we can help. These are all practices that every single one of us can do, without exception. Even those who are self-isolating, or even quarantining, can do. Call friends, neighbours, colleagues. Find out if there’s anything they need that you can help with, or you can help organise through your own network. It takes no time whatsoever to pick up the phone or send an email and, let's face it, time is something that we all have in abundance right now. Sadly.
I personally had a great example of this just yesterday. My parents are back in England, are both in their 70′s and are both feeling under the weather with what a doctor diagnosed over the phone, as a ‘mild case of Covid-19′. This obviously has me extremely concerned, however, they’re both chipper souls and are doing what they can to remain positive.
As yesterday was Mothers Day in the UK, I wanted to try to brighten things up and so reached out to Facebook group asking how I can get a Sunday Lunch delivered to their house - a staple part of the week with that generation in the UK.
The help I received was truly overwhelming. The ideas and suggestions were incredible. The outpouring of offers amazed me. Of course, I found a solution and this solution meted my heart...
I received some excellent assistance from a lady named Norma at Normandy Dining in Coventry. Sadly, after going through the motions it became apparent that they could only take payment by bank to bank transfer. As I’ve been living and working in Thailand for 12 years, I no longer have a UK bank account, meaning there was no way for me to pay.
To help me out they incredibly offered to cook and deliver the meals with absolutely no cost! I was floored, absolutely floored, by this incredible gesture of help and goodwill.
Needless to say, I’ve since been in touch with the local newspaper and if they decide to pick up the article, I’ll contact the BBC and more. Paying it forward is totally the way to go in times like this. Do what you can to help others as you never know how it will pay you back further down the line.
Oh, and I do intend to pay in full as quickly and as safely as I can!
