Todays moth is the hercules moth!!!

This moth is a part of the great silk moth family so as an adult it doesn't have a mouth!!! They live in rainforest in northern australia!!! they are very big and are also a fairly common moth to keep as a pet!!!

Hercules Moth

Coscinocera hercules

From the saturniidae family. They have a wingspan of about 27 cm, and they have the largest surface area documented, with a total of 300 square cm. They inhabit rainforests and tropical areas, as they are endemic to New Guinea and northern Australia.

the hercules moth (coscinocera hercules) is todays bug !!

they are among the biggest moths in the world O.o, adult hercules moths can have wingspans as big as ~27cm/11in !!

this is what their larvae look like:

the larvae grow up to ~12cm/4.7in !!

hercules moths are one of my favorite kinds of moths, right behind venezuelan poodle moths and right in front of the atlas moth !!

@angeloftheeasterngate​ submitted: Went to the Natural History Museum the other day. They had a big bug exposition so I took a bunch of pics. My favorite was this one though because it was HUGE!

Ohohohohoho lorge friend. I hope she lived a good long moth life before perishing! Did you know? Hercules moths are the largest moths in Australia with a wingspan of up to 11 inches! That’s pretty big. Here’s a live one to admire:
