I doubt people saying that ever read the abstract or conclusions, either. a lot of science seems trivial when buzzfeed or huffpo is reporting it. I also can’t understand why people treat science as a monolith, but that’s sort of a different problem.
Right? This ant thing was done by a neurobiologist and a zoologist -- but saying that makes it too obvious why they might be interested in the implications of ants having internal pedometers.

animals counting is really cool! it could have implications in our understanding of animal intelligence, if nothing else. and even if it doesn’t have applications in a capitalistic sense, that’s some awesome knowledge, right there.
I'm really just sticking this here to agree with it, I don't have anything to say in reply. Knowledge is good.
