Hello Hermitcraft fandom, It’s AU time And its all because I’m getting into Portal 2 and Wheatley’s voice and mannerisms remind me of Mumbo

So here we have Hermit Science, with their Hermit Initiative Program  Where the goal is to measure the creative and technical skills humans possess through a series of test and puzzles.

This AU doesn’t follow 100% to the portal plot as X isn’t inherently out to harm the test subject in the name of science, unlike GLaDOS, rather X is good-hearted but can switch into a more violent mode due to a glitch in his programming which has been dubbed “Evil X”

Plus the Hermit Initiative itself is made up of a lot less dangerous tests. Most of the time

Y’all this is self-indulgent as heck but if people are interested in this  I’d be happy to expand on it more

Anyway

MORE Hermit Science info!!

On the robot side we have Joe as a personality core.

He's one of the oldest cores still functional in the facility and spends most of his time in the library and research sections of the facility

Next are the Test Robots: Cub and Scar, forming the Convex duo

They were created as a way to test the baseline abilities of the test subjects in both technical (Cub) and creative (Scar) puzzles. Being part of the few fully mobile robots in the facility, you can be these guys take full advantage of this to cause some mischief. As seen in the comic provided.

Fun fact: Scar has large cracks in the middle of his hull from a test gone wrong when EX got mad. If Cub hadn't been there to pull him out of the test chamber, Scsr would have been destoryed. X later apologized ALOT afterwards.

And finally we have TFC, the last known scientist to have somehow survived X's takeover.

No one really knows how he survived but the chances of seeing him are very slim. In fact, only other humans have ever caught a glimpse of him as he would never let a robot see him. The only way you can tell his around is by the wall paintings and signs scattered around the facility.

And thats about all for now!

I think next info update will be about some more human characters!

Strap in Y’all, this is gonna be a disjointed ramble cuz boy do I have IDEAS

First up, let’s talk about X. He’s the GLaDOS equivalent in this AU. So he’s the one that runs the facility and oversees all the tests. The difference between X and GLaDOS is the X doesn’t want to see the Test Subjects fail and generally cares about the wellbeing of everyone still alive in the facility, whether it be human or machine. EX, on the other hand, is more malicious. His goal is to destroy the facility and everyone in it. EX developed as a glitch in X’s processors that gradually became bad enough to start influencing X. X is aware of EX and for the most part, he’s able to keep him under control but there are multiple times where EX has taken full control and wreck havoc on the facility.

The most noteworthy time is when EX influenced X to kill all the scientists in the facility. Yup, that’s right, we’re keeping that part of the Portal lore in. The story goes that X was starting to grow concerned about the ethics the scientists were using to test the subjects as well as hearing rumors that a lot of the lower staff had been going missing, just as new sentient cores and robots start assisting in these tests. It didn’t take a lot of effort for EX to convince X that these scientists were more harmful than good and the best way to deal with harmful situations was to get rid of it. And thats exactly what X did. 

Speaking of sentient robots, let’s get into that. I’m slowly making my way through the lists of hermits and deciding which ones I want to be robots and which ones are going to be humans. So far, I have Mumbo, Joe, and Doc as personality cores while Cub and Scar are going to be testing robots like P-body and Atlas, but actually being able to talk.  Fun fact about these guys, while their first memories are being activated in the Facility, sometimes, they’ll get “hallucinations” about a life outside of Hermit Science. Crazy right? Theres no way these robots could of have been anything BUT robots. wink wonk 

And finally the humans.So far for the human test subject category, we have Grian, Ren, and False. Human test subjects were able to survive because they were frozen in cryogenic sleep mode until X had them woken up for some more testing. There is one other human I’m certain of TFC. He’s like the cryptid of Hermit Science because no one knows if he actually exists or not. So far I have him placed as the one scientist to have survived the purge. 

And these are just a few of the hermits. I’m still making my way in trying to find a place for the rest, whether they be robot or human. So if you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to let me know! 

One last thing, before I end this ramble session, the tests.These tests are designed to measure the creative and technical skills the human subjects possess. So I’ve decided that the tests are going to be a mix of minecraft and portal mechanics. So some tests would be about how to cross and chasm using only the blocks provided, others on how to create structures with only one kind of block palette, some about redstone-esque puzzles and then some classic portal tests in there too.

So uh, with all the shitty stuff X has done lately, maybe change up Glados for the portal au, like in regards of the character it is y'know?

The entire Hermit Science AU is going to get revamped and although I dont have much right now, I'm going to be putting this AU on hiatus and Im not sure when it'll be back

And not only this AU but im probably going to be taking small breaks from Hermitcraft in general because this whole thing fuckin

sucks

I dont like discource on my blog

But this isnt like "differing opinions" discource, this is someone who I really liked watching being a fuckin shitty dirtbag

And although he wasnt my favorite hermit, he was still a close 3rd (mumbo being 1st and keralis 2nd) and this hurts my overall enjoyment of Hermitcraft

And if I can be a bit selfish, this also makes me less proud of my art because one of my most liked/reblogged fanart for Hermitcraft is a comic with both Mumbo and X in it, like I know Mumbo is the main focus but X still plays a big roll in it. And this goes for all my art with X in it

While im still proud of the art itself, it just, feels weird now

Im too mad right now so before I end this, Im gonna say this one thing about the situation

Im a big believer in people changing and improving

But my belief only extends to those that ACTIVELY WANT and TRY to change their behavior and beliefs. And goddamn it I want X to be better but right now? He's not and from the evidence gathered he doesnt seem like he wants to try and fix it

If he's willing to change and shows actual growth, then MAYBE I'll give him another shot

Until then, I dont fuck with that shit

Hey; in the hermit science au, is EX like a core that's attached to X n then Mumbo?

Nope! Although I did play around with that idea for a little bit before deciding on my final idea. The main reason EX isn’t a core that’s attached to the chassis of the main AI is because it would be too easy to get rid of him, and I want him to be a continued threat to the facility. Plus him being a core didn’t flow as nicely as I wanted with the basic storyline in my head.

In the end, I decided that EX was a glitch in X’s processors that eventually grew enough to infect the entire central body of the chassis, rather than just X. This is why Mumbo also gets corrupted when he gets plugged into the chassis. Just like how in Portal 2, Wheatley is on your side up until he gets plugged in and turns evil due to corruption via testing euphoria
