" Instagram 👈🏻 Facebook 👈🏻 Magawa (November 2013 – January 2022) was an African giant pouched rat that worked as a HeroRAT sniffing out landmines in Cambodia for the non-governmental organization APOPO (in English, Anti-Personnel Landmines Removal Product Development) which trains rats to detect landmines and tuberculosis. Magawa was the most successful landmine-sniffing rat in the organization's history, and received the PDSA Gold Medal in 2020.

Magwa was awarded a medal for his service. A tiny, rat sized medal that fits on his harness. I love this SO much.

I know my sponsorship will just end up sliding over to another rat...but I’m sad to see that Magawa is going to get to retire and I won’t be getting updates about them every month.  On the other hand...I’m rooting for him to have a happy retirement of eating fruit and hanging out with friends. This dude has found 70 landmines and is awesome and deserves all the treats!
