Heroes catches another bad break.
a sad day for all those who hoped that the series would return in a new version
Tim Kring's 'Heroes' is eyeing a second encore with 'Heroes: Eclipsed,' a new incarnation of the popular 2006 superhero drama series.
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE, BEING SAD IS CANCELLED FOREVER
reading through twitter reactions to the Heroes: Eclipsed announcement
so far i've got:
people who are excited because they loved the OG show
every variety of "the show sucked after S1, please don't" (sometimes with "after S2")
several "Reborn sucked, this can't be good"
[more moderate versions of the above two takes]
several different "don't" gifs
a few very hateful comments about the show in its entirety
people rooting for it not to fail
people rooting for it not to fail (but without much hope)
a few calls for Hiro to come back
a call for Hiro to come back, spelling him "Hero Nakamura" - which i'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume was intentional
pleas for the OG cast to return
a nasty comment about the OG actors maybe coming back because they careers aren't doing too hot (big oof)
a plea that no matter what, Sylar needs to stay away
a plea for Sylar to return (but spelling him "Syler"....)
one Milo thirst tweet ("if we don't get to see his thighs i don't want it")
some calling for Reborn to be retconned
comments about preferring other shows (like someone asked??)
a few eclipse jokes (including several that criticized the announcement timing - it should've been DURING the eclipse)
one comment joking that we must be in the Twilight Zone, because this announcement is years late - the person seems to genuinely believe this is about Reborn
multiple people convinced that only one season ever aired. either they also think this is about Reborn, or they are doing the "everything was shit after S1" take on a NEXT-LEVEL straight-faced joke basis... i genuinely can't figure it out??
one person joking, quote: "The writers guild has a chance to do the funniest thing ever", who i want to personally punch in the face
more Eclipsed opinions (in articles this time)
one article, by Screenrant, contains one take i can't really see / don't agree with, and one i think is close to spot on:
the article criticizes refers to "a truncated storyline and clunky writing" in S2, and claims all subsequent seasons suffered from the lack of character development and dropped plotlines during that time. this..... i don't really agree with :'D like, how much did S2 really affect S3 and S4? not sure that holds too much water.
i really like the article's take on Reborn, however: they mainly name the terrible pacing of Reborn as the cause of it not hitting with the audience. too little time before the big stakes resulted in it feeling a lot less grounded than the original, is their opinion. and i can absolutely see where they're coming from!
in my opinion, Reborn had much bigger problems than that, but that doesn't make this take untrue or not refreshing to hear!

another article, by Inverse, has a very different, but very intriguing approach:
it's enthusiastic, i appreciate that 🥺
the idea here is that Heroes aired in a time without superhero stories that were independent of DC and Marvel, and today, that kind of thing is much more established (the success of shows like The Boys and The Umbrella Academy is cited). therefore, the show might be much better received now - hence the tagline: The world may finally be ready for more Heroes.
further, it also cites that the OG Heroes show used to run parallel to the popular show Lost, which might've cost it some fame as well. not sure how true that is (i wasn't there :'D), but i'll take any evidence a fresh start could do better / equally well today!
i need y'all to know that my pledge still stands btw
if Heroes: Eclipsed is really going ahead, the MINUTE we get any concrete character info, i WILL start drafting Halloween aests for the new babies
I hope that heroes eclipse will not be a reboot but a new story, because I wouldn't want this story or characters to be wannabe what they were before
let this story stand on its own
maybe something after, or maybe something from the past
maybe others would not be interested in it, but I would like to learn, for example, the beginnings of the company
how did they meet arthur or adam (ok, ok I know I'm biased but I like adam)
