I see so many people give Bruce shit for making Dick report on the Teen Titans team when he first meets them in Batman and Robin by Jeff Lemire- and while I heartily disagree with some of the writing choices and the words Bruce says- I agree with what he does.

He is right.

It does not matter how close Dick grows with these people, it does not matter how much Bruce trusts them, none of it matters.

They are gods.

Fucking larger than life, people pray to them, unhuman creatures.

Dick- his baby boy- his precious angel son- is a boy. A child.

Human.

And they could snap his neck without a seconds hesitation, without Dick being able to lift a single finger to stop it- without Bruce being able to lift a single finger to stop it.

Dick chose this life- he cannot claim that Bruce forced him into it- because Bruce fires him very early on and keeps him as far away as possible and it is only because of Dick's incessant pestering that he lets the boy be Robin.

He has to know the consequences. He has to acknowledge- not just passively, not unconsciously- but verbally, how he would be able to defeat his "allies" his teammates. He has to know how to protect himself.

It's not high school. It's not a day care. It's a room full of heros with three times his strength, his speed, his skill. And none of them had to work for it the way he did. He has to know that. And he has to work harder to make up for it.
