“Yeah no, it’s been fine. Busy, trying to keep it that way at least.”
“It’s fine, looks worse than it is,” she managed a smirk through her cut lip.
“So what’d I miss?”
“Better yet--who missed me?”
“Wha--? Yeah, no. I’m fine. See? Smiles and all. Sorry I was spacing out. What’s up?”

Ashlyn sat in the darkest corner of the Hecate cabin, unable to process everything. Mal was dead. She didn’t get the chance to help her sister who had looked broken in the infirmary. Seeing the blood that covered her sister’s body was heartbreaking. But she knew no-one else could see except for Chiron for him to deal with the body. She had used a spell to make everyone without her permission not to come near her sister’s room until the body disappeared.
In just under a year she had lost her father and a sister. She felt guilty that she had done nothing to stop her, and the guilt grew. Ashlyn had never truly bonded with Mal like she had with Jo, and it was hard to know that she would never be able to ever.
Mal was dead.
“Here wait-- I can get that.”
