Magic was always seen as nothing but a destructive demonic thing. Time and time again, throughout history, our ancestors would be burned at the stake, given difficult lives and ultimately lose their future to those who feared the unknown. And, despite all the fighting those with magic had done to prevent this -- even to the point of relocating elsewhere, trouble always found them and their existence began to dwindle down. Or so most believed.
Truth is, we never died out completely. And even those born to non-magical parents had tendencies to be born with unique abilities and magic. Therefore, never could we be stopped but no longer did we wish to hide from the fear of men.
In a world where magical beings and the non-magic have a history of everlasting calamity, a new age had finally arrived. A war, a rebellion and a new hope for change. And perhaps this time--unlike the failed attempt of our ancestors, coexistence between the two may become more than a fabled reality.
And thus, Te Wānanga Ruānuku was born.
Te Wānanga Ruānuku (which means ‘Wizarding University’ in Maori) is a university located within a scenic, homely town near Whangarei, New Zealand. This location was chosen as the place for one of the first ever co-existing magic universities as it had much more open space and ranges to ensure things could be kept on a down-low -- but nowadays, it’s been garnering much more interest.
Within this school, magical students and those without magic can coexist and study together. Students with magic and unique abilities (which we call ‘Ahurei’) are able to hone their skills to become more proficient -- they have a choice to focus on a magic degree or something else. Whilst non-magical students have the opportunity to learn about magic as well, and dabble within alchemy where magic is found within ingredients, rather than within their own veins.
