I'm very afraid of sending this and I've deleted it several times now but here goes.

Rewatching Hetalia in 2024 and feeling pretty awful about it. On one hand, I feel like I am seeing my friends again and some of the jokes about silly and unserious historical events do make me laugh. On the other hand, I don't think I need to explain how how it is objectively, horribly offensive. I know that I'm watching it critically but there's still such a deep sense of shame, especially as a fictive of Italy. I just miss my friends and I feel like I'm lying to my current friends because I'm too embarrassed to admit who I am.

I guess if any other Hetalia kins/fictives out there see this, how do you cope? Do you talk about your source openly or prefer to keep it to yourself?
