Arthur called you earlier in the day and asked if you wanted to go out on the town with him. Your fluttering heart made it impossible for you to say no. Just the thought of spending the whole day with Arthur to yourself made you swoon. Although they were never truly called dates, you didn’t mind, it’s not like you voiced your feelings for Arthur just as he never voiced his feelings for you.
The day was magical regardless. You two walked side by side through London, witnessing all of the holiday transformations. Around midday, a group of carolers serenaded you both while you ate lunch outside a cafe, embracing the chill in the weather. The shops were decorated to the fullest and Arthur insisted he buy you the things that caught your eye the most. During your stroll through the park you stopped to listen to the local band play holiday tunes and watched the children dance.
After hours of talking and walking, the sun began to set, just as you made your way to the riverside, watching the water flow. The serene sounds of the city mixed with the holiday festiveness set you at peace. All of a sudden, the bells from no other than Big Ben broke you from your trance. Your head moved to look over your shoulder at the clock tower, but your eyes stopped when they met Arthur’s.
“What is it?” Your voice came out softer than you intended, but the gentleness of his gaze didn’t allow you to talk any louder for fear of breaking that gaze.
“You just look absolutely breathtaking, Y/N.” Arthur smiled and placed his hand over yours.
The bells still chimed in the background, signaling the late hour. But your mind couldn’t care less, all it could think about was Arthur. You loved him terribly and everything about today proved it. Now, as you looked in his eyes, you knew it was time to finally voice all those thoughts you had about him.
“Arthur...” You looked down nervously and Arthur’s expression dropped, fearful that he took his compliment too far, crossing the line of friendship, “Arthur, I love you.”
Your voice was barely above a whisper as your eyes traveled up to meet his once again. His cheeks were a light pink but you couldn’t tell if that was from the cold air or not. You shared a moment of awkward, anxious eye contact before Arthur shook his head, getting him out of his trance. A smile spread across his face and his hands intertwined with both of yours.
“I love you too, darling,” As the last bell chimed from Big Ben, Arthur leaned in and gently pressed his lips to yours, the perfect ending to a most perfect day.
