i’ve talked about it with  @knightsdeath  but have yet to post it here  ,  so i want to take a sec to talk about dimitri as a child  ,  prior  to the tragedy .

as a boy , dimitri had  little to no interest in fighting .  he found interest in the  historical  aspect of weaponry and war  ,  excitedly pouring himself into every book he could get his hands on  ,  begging his father for specially made weapons only to admire them rather than use them .  often  ,  when gilbert would schedule his training  ,  dimitri would  run and hide  ,  preferring to hole up somewhere with his books or journals or maps  &  would often have his friends assist him in avoiding gilbert which worked  ...  about 40% of the time .  and once he was found he was often put through more rigorous training than originally intended for being such a headache .

he liked plays and music and fiction  /  historical texts  ,  horse back riding  ...  he enjoyed playing  hero  with wooden swords not as a training exercise but rather as a  game  with his friends as it was only fun to him when it didn’t matter whether or not his stance or grip was correct  ,  he just wanted to play  ,  to be a kid  ,  not a  king to be .  he helped the servants with their chores and followed several of the knights around asking questions or just observing  ...  he was also significantly more shy  /  quiet and while he wasn’t a push over he certainly wasn’t the same willful  ,  determined person he grows into .

after the tragedy  ,  the only reason he found to stay alive was to avenge the deaths of everyone he watched fall before him .  he threw himself into training and pushed himself  hard  to get through his physical therapy as quickly as possible  ,  desperate to be able to do what he needed to do as quickly as possible .  the books he read became almost entirely war  /  tactics  /  combat based  ,  he took an interest in weaponry and armor in terms of how effect they were  ,  rather than their creation .  he closed himself off from everyone but dedue  ( dedue is ... a safety blanket  ,  in a lot of ways ?  i’ll write an hc on their rel.  later )  and essentially  cut his friends off  in the years that followed .  not that he  avoided them  but ... he was busy .  felix he saw more often as rodrigue was a big help in dimitri’s training  /  rehabilitation but even he had trouble keeping track of dimitri after dimitri was able to walk on his own again .

upon entering the academy  ,  it’s the first time in  years  that dimitri has really spoken at length with sylvain , ingrid , or felix .  which is why their C supports seem so ... distanced from one another ?  like they barely know anything about one another or their trauma .  because they haven’t talked about it because he wasn’t  there to talk to .

essentially ... dimitri was very much his own person as a child and after the tragedy he grew into what he envisioned as a living embodiment of justice for those who died  ,  for his family and friends  ,  creating himself for  them  and discarding  ‘ himself ’  along the way .  post - game a lot of his growth is learning how to be dimitri again  ,  and not just his father’s lance .

something i didn't understand tho is why was nathan laying down with dead/dying Rachel in the last photo? maybe his father+mr jefferson thought he was too reckless and unstable so they killed him too and it was jefferson who texted chloe and led them to the junkyard to get rid of them with (dead) Nathan's phone? the only thing that doesn't make sense is that that pic must've been taken 3+ months ago so it was probably staged and nathan texted chloe himself so Jefferson could get rid of them but. hey
