I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but screw it. I've never been one to care about other people's opinions about me.
I think tumblr should remove #Black Lives Matter and #Stop Asian Hate from the trending page.
Not the search page as a whole, but just the top spots. And let me state this now: I don't think people should get over what happened or ignore it. I just think that tumblr as a website should be objective about these topics.
Yes, it is important to educate yourself about what happened and is still going on, but these movements are rooted in (not exclusively, of course) the USA. Tumblr is a website that is open to people from all over the world, so possibly also to countries where these topics are not as big an issue, or there are bigger problems. The USA is obviously a large ass country, but it's not the only country in the world, so we can't put all of our sole focus on what is happening there.
My point is: Tumblr needs to give every topic a fair chance of making it into the trends. And by clogging up the first two spots, these chances get smaller.
But, like I said, people should still be able to educate themselves, if they want to. So, here is my suggestion:
At the top of the page, just below the tags you follow, tumblr recently decided to show their users some tags they could check out.
This bar right here. (No, I have no regrets about my interests.)
Tumblr should just pin #Black Lives Matter and #Stop Asian Hate there. That way, the trends could be free again and people could still check out the tags, if they want to.
Then people can also stop whining about what a terrible page tumblr is for accidentally removing #Stop Asian Hate or #Black Lives Matter from the trends.
so many people have been following me lately i feel like i gotta up my game
