The Handley Page Heyford was essentially near obsolescence by the time it had debuted, the last heavy-bomber biplane to enter RAF service, in 1933. It was mainly just a transitional aircraft between the aged Vickers Virginia and the new monoplanes that began entering service later in the 1930s, and it was reduced to trainer duties within only a few years.
