I have seen so much hate in the descendants community recently on Harry hook and that his only love interest is and should only be a POC characters and that kinda makes me mad because I see Harry as a pansexual kind of person who doesn’t really care about skin color but more about thier personality! Sorry I needed a rant because you write him so well and you don’t try and make the reader a specific ethnicity! It’s just why can’t everyone love Harry hook without it being a fight over someone OCs being what they want!
i think you're misinterpreting the rants love, its not that Harrys only love interest should be POC its that there are some writers, that straight-up ONLY write White reader with Harry (which isn't the problem) and trash uma as they do so (which IS the problem), completely forgetting that Uma and Harry are ride or die for each other characters, i see no problem in writing white reader x harry, but if you make Uma hate reader just because shes dating harry? and make harry trash uma himself?
that's a big no-no and @inickel can explain it better than i can, but trashing uma because Harrys into her and the author wants Harry for reader, is racist. because canonically, she and Harry are into each other, or at least, Harry is INTO into uma, he loves her. and Uma is Harrys oldest friend, she trusts him with her life, shes not going to be nasty to him about HIS relationship, she trusts his judgment and Harry will always value her input, if Uma doesn't like reader, harrys dropping them, period, no matter if they are poc or not.
whenever i write hhxr if umas going to be mean to reader, its going to be for a legit reason other than “the reader is dating harry so uma is jealous”, I've only written one or two hhxr with Uma not liking Reader and that was one of my first couple writings, and it was more “reader is disrespecting uma as her captain because the reader is part of umas crew” and uma didn't like her because of that, she didn't care she was dating Harry, she cared that she was part of the crew and disrespecting her, and harry backed uma up because uma is his oldest friend. another thing i like to do with reader is reader having to gain umas trust if its not already there in the fanfic, because Uma is her own person, and while she would not control harrys love life, she would still have opinions on it.
and i do “now” always try to make the reader ambiguous so EVERYONE can read my stories without having to change themselves, whether it be their hair, skin, eyes, anything, they should be able to delve into the story without having to change themselves. unless its a specific request, or commissioning asking for a specific ethnicity reader, i will try to make reader a blank slate for the actual reader to present themselves onto (y/n).
sorry this turned into a big rant but to sum it up: Harry can be shipped with anyone, no matter their skin color, but turning Uma into a jealous, scheming, someone who wouldn't trust harry with his own life in the process because she and Harry are canonically into each other is a big no.
edit: also pansexuality is regardless of gender not skintone/personality, you were thinking of demi-sexual which, to the bare minimum, is attraction to personality/has to make an emotional connection before sexual feelings emerge
