Hey you gays! (like hey you guys from the goonies<must see)
Recently, someone close to me came out of the closet so to speak. Proud of them (not going to single them out).
And I was thinking of all the gay couples I have met thru my life...
then I thought of the straight couples...
and, honestly, upon reflection, on average, the gay couples were a lot closer and happier.
And I went 'Why?'
And I answered it almost instantly: they had to struggle to find who they were in a world that pushes straight couples and hates gay couples. So to go thru that, you have to really find the core of who you are. So in knowing yourself, albeit thru struggles, the person you fall in love with has done the same. And knows themselves better. And knows what they want in a relationship, and how to be themselves in a relationship. They do not hold back.
I mean, that is one of the troupes of shitty sitcom tv (and movies) that has always driven me crazy: the husband/boyfriend lies about something big, and an adventure to clean up the mess from the lies happens. When if you were upfront with who you are and what you want, and TRUST your significant other to do the same, lies are...relationship weakeners. And gay people lie less...at least to themselves and their lovers. Which makes their connection stronger and more reliable. I ain't saying they can't fuck up; everyone does. Just, statistically, I bet they fuck up less...
