I remember seeing a debate on a warriors forum on the sign that Brambleclaw should be deputy also matching for Thornclaw. Is it possible for something to happen like this, where the seer of an indecisive leader finds a sign of who should be the deputy except it could mean two different cats? Do seers ever get signs on good choices for deputies, at least in, say, Shadowclan where the seer is more highly regarded than the leader, or be asked to look for signs concerning it by an indecisive leader?

I think I recall dux answering a question like this some time ago, but let me take a crack at it.

I feel like a lot of it does depend on the culture of the clan in question. ShadowClan, like you said, is probably more likely to look to a seer for signs, especially regarding deputy choices, and probably other choices like with apprentices and mentors and what have you.

Say its the situation with the sign that Leafpool receives. In that case, a lot of it is going to have to do with the context of the sign. At the time, we know that Brambleclaw is really shooting for that position, and we can infer that Firestar has been at least mulling over him as a possibility. Most likely, Firestar would have conferred his possible choices with Leafpool and they would have figured out who the sign is for themselves. Had they been deciding between Thornclaw and Brambleclaw, then the sign was probably a big ol fuck you.
