Oh, I just absolutely adore this scene!  Hiccup and Astrid trust each other so much that they let them play with their weaknesses. Hiccup used to be a very lonely person, so it's normal for him to keep secrets from others and do something without prying eyes. Astrid on the contrary needs sincerity and openness. Hiccup trusts Astrid, so he lets her tease him about being secretive. And Astrid trusts Hiccup, so she allows him to demonstrate a comic dissatisfaction with her excessive curiosity. This is one of the many proofs that Hiccup and Astrid are comfortable next to each other. They can laugh together at their weaknesses without fear of offending or being offended.

Hiccstrid Prompt - Spending Time Together

Together they repair the Mildew’s roof after an unsuccessful training session with dragons 

They wash the dragons together (a bonus if Stormfly likes to swim, and Toothless can’t stand water, which creates a lot of difficulties) 

They spend the night in the Great Hall, as their houses have not yet been rebuilt after the war with Drago's army

They wander through the streets of the village and chat about nothing

Joint patrol of the Dragon’s Edge 

They take care of their equipment together in the forge 

Stuck together at the Dragon Training Academy due to another snowstorm 

How about fencing on ice?..

Squeeze each other’s hands to find out who is stronger. Bonus if Hiccup's hands are warm after working in the forge, and Astrid's hands are cold after flying with Stormfly

Okay, this is going to be a bit confusing as my English continues to suffer. 

I like the "Sandbusted" series. Not only because of the romance at the end and Hiccup's interaction with Snotlout, but also because in this series Hiccup and Astrid got to know each other better. 

Astrid appreciates practicality very much – therefore, she wants to find a gift for Hiccup that would be useful to him, that would not gather dust on the shelf. But for Hiccup, it is not so much practicality that is important as sincerity – therefore, he wants to give Astrid a locket as a sign of his feelings for her, but he forgets that a chain is needed for the locket to wear it. 

The problem is that none of them knew what was important to the other. Astrid wanted to find a practical gift for Hiccup, not knowing that intimacy was more important to him. Hiccup wanted Astrid to feel his love for her through the locket, but for Astrid, practicality is more important – a locket without a chain would not be the most suitable gift for her. 

I like that by the end of the series, Hiccup and Astrid were able to figure out their mistakes. Seeing that Astrid is upset, Hiccup thinks that his gift is not useful enough for her. Instead of being offended, he says, "Okay. If you don't like it…». Perhaps he wants to say that he is ready to find another, more suitable gift if she does not like the locket. Astrid, in turn, admits that she did not find a gift for Hiccup that would be useful to him. Hiccup assures that the practicality of the gift is not important to him at all, the giver himself is important to him. 

Thus, Hiccup and Astrid got to know each other better. Hiccup made a chain to the locket so that Astrid could wear it comfortably. Astrid gave Hiccup a big hug, knowing that it would make him happier than the most useful gift.

Headcanon that the second time Hiccup specifically gave Astrid his hand, ostensibly for a handshake, knowing that this would provoke her to kiss.

A Matter of Perspective

Hiccup and Astrid are often called opposites, and this is exactly what allows them to develop as personalities next to each other. It's no secret that Hiccup and Astrid seem to "adopt" each other's strengths – Hiccup becomes more courageous next to Astrid, shows courage, stubbornness and determination. Astrid, next to Hiccup, learns to control her emotions, to be more tolerant and merciful towards herself and others.

Many Hiccstrid fans know about this "role exchange", but few people noticed that it happens literally in EVERY episode of the fifth season. At least in its beginning. See for yourself:

1 episode. Living on the Edge

In the first episode, Hiccup faces a difficult choice. On the one hand, he is worried about Garf's injuries and wants to ease his suffering. On the other hand, it is necessary to deliver amber to the Edge as soon as possible in order to save the island from a volcanic eruption. What should be done? Leave the dragon to die to save the Edge, or help Garf while losing the island? In this difficult situation, Astrid comes to the aid of Hiccup – she takes on some of the responsibilities. And here's what's interesting: Astrid leaves Hiccup exactly the mission that will help him develop leadership qualities. Given Astrid's strong sense of duty and Hiccup's boundless love for dragons, one would assume that Hofferson would go to protect the Edge while Hiccup takes care of Garf. Instead, Astrid changes roles with Hiccup – so that their missions have a good effect on their characters. As a result, staying with Garf, Astrid develops qualities such as caring and compassion. Protecting the Edge, Hiccup strengthens the skills of a leader and a warrior.

2 series Sandbusted 

I will ask you to notice one detail: Hiccup chose a wonderful gift for Astrid, but forgot that the locket needed a chain to wear it. Astrid spends a lot of time and effort trying to find the perfect gift for Hiccup, but forgets that the main thing in a gift is sincerity. In this series, Hiccup learns to look at things from a more practical side, while Astrid begins to understand that practicality is not the main thing. How does this happen? Hiccup comes up with a clever plan to lure Sandbuster into a trap, but the dragon finds a way out. Astrid and the gang search the whole island in search of Hiccup and Snotlout, but all attempts are in vain. Do you see what I'm getting at? To succeed, Hiccup and Astrid have to change the angle of view. To get out of the cave, Hiccup has to work physically – build a cage, climb a fragile heap , show strength and courage. In order to find Hiccup and Snotlout, Astrid has to be smart and imaginative, think outside the box.

4 series. Snotlout's Angels

Performing a mission to save Snotlout, Hiccup takes on the "dirty" part of the operation: he must distract female Razorwhips, covering the girls' backs. Astrid negotiates with the Wingmaidens and saves Snotlout, developing her diplomacy skills and learning to cope with anger.

Of course, this is not all the cases when Hiccup and Astrid change roles... But hey, how much proof do you need to understand that Hiccstrid is the perfect couple?

Why did Hiccup and Astrid get engaged?

I know that many fans were strained by the "hasty" engagement of Hiccup and Astrid. I mean, come on! These two had been getting together for so long, and then suddenly announced their engagement? It's kind of implausible, isn't it? Well, I think I have a decent explanation for Hiccup and Astrid's "hasty" engagement.

Many of the characters' statements are paraphrased in my country, so the quotes may be inaccurate.

 Remember the "Free Scauldy" series. Tired of Snotlout's annoying flirtation, Astrid begins to tease him with a reciprocal flirtation and jokingly offers to get engaged. When asked by a shocked Jorgenson, Astrid explains: "Let's become a couple."

  That is, the Vikings do not have the concept of "just being in a relationship." If a man and a woman like each other, they announce their intention to become a couple in front of the tribe and begin to prepare for marriage – get engaged, arrange an engagement. In those days, it was impossible to become a couple just like that – in those days, people declared their sympathy and immediately married. That's why Hiccup and Astrid initially did not tell the friends about their relationship. They knew that in this case they would not be able to avoid rumors and conversations about marriage, for which they were not ready at that time. At the same time, Hiccup and Astrid knew that they were serious, and did not want to hide their feelings for each other. The engagement solved all the problems. Firstly, this is how Hiccup and Astrid declared themselves a couple and legitimized their relationship, which means that this is not a fleeting love, but a serious feeling. Hiccup and Astrid know what it will lead to, and agree with it. Secondly, it saves Hiccup and Astrid from unnecessary rumors and annoying questions about marriage. Thirdly, now they can live in peace – now they are engaged, and they can decide for themselves when to get married.

I like that Hiccup and Astrid are able to solve problems calmly and without unnecessary drama. It may be romantic to kiss in dark corners and hide a relationship from society, but Hiccup and Astrid choose an engagement, knowing that they will feel safer this way. This is one of the most important advantages of their relationship.
