Some of you know that lately I've been extra super sick, (which was the crux behind closing 0rigami Tsunami for 3 months). Sick enough that I'm having to hack off all my super long and amazing hair, because it's falling out by the fist full, whenever I wash it, brush it, or run my fingers through it.
My last doctor appointment stated that the most likely suspect of this, as well as a huge list of other symptoms I've been dealing with, suggest a hormonal imbalance. What tipped the scales was waking the other morning with eyes so sand papery dry, that I scratched my cornea by just waking up. That's it. I opened my eye and BAM.
It is the suck, of mighty monkey poo. Upon telling this to my dad (who happens to be a doctor), who I'd previously stated I suspected I'd been exhibiting a specific group of symptoms that he poo-pooh'd as my being a hypochondriac, he looked through all my records, my test results, my list of WHACKED OUT symptoms, and said, "Shit. My bad."
I have Hashimoto's Disease. As well as spinal stenosis, and hypomanic bipolar cyclothymia.
I suspected as much a few months back. Uncanny, no? I seem to be able to diagnose myself more accurately and faster than people with medical degrees, like if Greg House and Doogie Howser had a punk rock love child. In any case, I have just started treatment.
SO. Hopefully in a few months, I won't be a total wreck. *fingers crossed* And then I can fully re-open 0rigami Tsunami, and release all the new product lines I've been brewing in my head. MAKE ALL THE THINGS!!
The American health care system took 8 years to finally diagnose me. I lost my job, my friends, my apartment, my amazing credit score, my relationship--basically, everything that I had was brutally ripped away from me, piece by piece, except for my very best friend.
Nearly a decade later, and I'm still fighting to rebuild a world that was reduced to ashes and rubble.
I'm lucky. It could have been worse. When people tell you that losing everything is the worst thing you can experience, they're not wrong. It caused a minor mental breakdown, in my case. But it also was easily one of the best things that could have possibly happened to me.
It made me aware, every moment, of every day, of who I really am, what I really want, who my real friends are, and what actually matters in life, as opposed to things that are just pointless.
When I had "everything", I was wasting it. Pissing it all away.
When I have nothing, I have everything I need, and I treasure every moment.
Never lose hope.
P.S. If you're just as tragically devastated as I am that I have to get rid of my kick-ass, anime hair, then perhaps you should click over to my amazon wish list of cosplay wigs and extensions, and send me a present. :) http://amzn.com/w/190GIMRL12VYW
How's a badass supposed to kick ass and take names without the badass superhero hair to match?
And I'm way too girly/tiny/NOT BLUE to pull off Doctor Manhattan.
