📚📖 tips for stuDYING 🙇🏻♀️
Read before class. Not too in depth, just skimming, so you have general knowledge & you don’t waste time on stuff the professor doesn’t care about. Focus on the main points.
From your first reading, make little questions you can ask in class if the subject is brought up. This forces you to listen and engage in class.
Record your lectures if you can. I find this takes off pressure from trying to take notes verbatim, because you know if you don’t understand, you can go back and listen. So instead of stressing over getting notes down, I get to actually listen & I’ll jot down the important points.
GO TO CLASS. Remember how much money you’re paying to be there.
After class, review. If you review within 24 hours, you will retain information. It doesn’t have to be hardcore, but you can go back & reread something the professor really emphasized.
Don’t overwork yourself. Go to the gym, make food, or maybe just try again tomorrow.
Do a little bit everyday. The more you’re viewing material, the more it’s going to stick & you won’t have to cram or stress over an exam.
Quiz yourself. You can make your own questions, use quizlets, or even the questions in the book. Try practice problems. Start thinking of how material will be quizzed on an exam.
Relate the information to stuff you already know. Things can make sense when you can see how it can be applied or if you can break it down to smaller pieces.
Try to teach someone else. If you can teach someone, you know you have the topic down. Again, you’re being exposed to the material and you’re putting it into your own words, so it’s going to be a lot easier to remember. Try to really understand the content and the topic.
PLANNERS ARE BIBLES. If you can, have a set study schedule & map out how you want to get things done, it’s a lot easier to have a routine. Plus, it feels nice to check things off when you finish. It also helps you set your priorities. So yes, prioritize most important tasks first and finish them off quickly and efficiently.
Use alternative ways to map your learning. For one class, you might find charts are helpful. Maybe it helps to make little raps or make something into a song. You can make up mnemonics. Any way to make something into your own is going to make material stick & condense it.
Give yourself time to relax, go out, be with friends & family, etc. Try and plan out breaks into your schedule too. You deserve a little self-love & care.
Passing Notes
The bell rang just as the last few students shuffled into class, George and Harold being among them. The teacher- a tired old man always about one door slam away from a panic attack- tried weakly to get everyone to settle down, but it was no use. This class was just always a little off-schedule; most kids came from gym or lunch.
As George reached his desk, he raised an eyebrow in confusion. There was a folded slip of paper set neatly in the center of his desk. He picked it up, looking for a name.
"Ooh, a note," Harold said, smiling playfully. "Who's it from?"
"I dunno, there's no name." George opened it. Inside were several lines of neat cursive, which filled the inside of the paper. It took a few minutes to decipher (he was never very good at reading cursive), but he recognized it as a Shakespeare poem.
Oblivious
Sorry this took so long for me to get around to, I’ve had major writers block.
But finally, here it is!!

Eleven giggling snapped Will out of his thoughts. His (kind of) sister was sat across the room with Mike and Max, talking about god knows what. Will noticed how close El was sitting to Max, and he couldn’t help but wonder whether she had acted on her crush yet.
Mike and El had broken up a few weeks after the Snow Ball in ‘84, deciding to stay just friends. They did have a bond, but it wasn’t quite the romantic kind. After all they’d been through, it’s not like they could just forget each other.
And besides, El had her sights set on someone else. Someone she was pressed up against on the couch in Mike’s basement.
“Your hair is so soft...” El said, eyes wide as she held a strand of Max’s fiery hair. Max was smiling fondly down at her. Will smiled at the encounter for a moment before looking away. He had to admit, they would be an adorable match. He was almost jealous of their almost relationship. But not in the way that you’d think.
He had his eyes set upon the person at the other end of the couch, laughing at something Dustin had said. Will smiled at the way is face lit up, freckles dusting his cheeks, the hair falling into his pale face. Then Mike looked over, eyes locking with Will’s, and somehow his eyes seemed to light up even more.
Will had liked Mike for a long time. He couldn’t remember how long, and he couldn’t remember at which point he realised he was in love with the other boy. But he knew it was love; he hadn’t ever felt a feeling as strong as this.
Mike had gone back to his conversation with Dustin and Lucas but Will was still staring. After a little while, Will realised what was making him feel down. It was the thought that Mike would never like him back.
Will sighed standing up. He announced that he was going to get a drink, before walking up the basement stairs. Mike’s parents weren’t home, and Nancy was at his house with Jonathan and Steve, so he didn’t have to worry about making any awkward conversation.
Will walked into the kitchen and over to a cupboard, opening it and grabbing a glass. He walked over to the sink and filled the glass with water. He looked out of the kitchen window, the sun was setting, casting an orange glow across the Wheeler’s front yard.
Will walked over to the front door, I clocking it and stepping outside. He took a seat on the front porch, staring up at the hazy sky.
He was sat alone for a few minutes before he heard the door open behind him. He turned to see Mike giving him a small smile, crossing his arms to try and keep warm.
It must’ve been cold. Will hadn’t noticed. Ever since the Mind Flayer he didn’t really feel the cold.
“Hey,” Mike whispered, taking a seat next to Will. So close that their shoulders and thighs were pressed together. “You okay? You left half an hour ago and never came back down. We were worried.”
“It was just getting a little overwhelming is all.” Will replied, Mike nodded.
“You’ve been acting strange lately, are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine, Mikey.” Will turned to him smiling. He took the moment to look at Mike’s features, they were so close. He took in his sharp cheekbones, his soft lips, and finally his... eyes. Which were staring right at him.
“Will...?”
Will surged forwards capturing Mike’s lips in a kiss. It only lasted a second, as he pulled away almost immediately from the shock of what he’d just done. The look of surprise on Mike’s face didn’t make Will feel any better. He stood up and moved towards the front door.
“Uhm... i-I’ll be with the others...” He turned to walk inside.
“Will, wait!” Will slowly turned around, scared to face the look of anger that would surely be covering Mike’s face. “W-what was that?”
“Huh?”
“What was that?”
“I kissed you.”
“Why.”
“I don’t know.”
“There has to be a reason.”
“Well, there isn’t one.”
“Come on Will, I know you better than that. There’s definitely a reason.” Mike sighed.
“There isn’t!” Will Insisted.
“Will.”
“Mike.”
“Will.”
“Mike.”
“Will!”
“Okay fine, I love you, you asshole.”
Will suddenly found himself staring at his feet. That is until he felt fingers gently pulling his chin up. His eyes locked with Mike’s.
Mike was... smiling?
“I love you too, asshole.” Will laughed as Mike pulled him into a hug.
I recognize that there are many problems with homeschooling but some ppl seem to think it’s inherently bad & should be illegal and yeah…that’s not a good thing either
