It's been a long while since I felt pride for my high school and proud to be an alum of it.
I went to the high school band concert tonight on a whim. I was so impressed by the Wind Ensemble. As a student at UNT, I can say without bragging that I've gone to some amazing concerts. This high school band could've competed with the musicians and concerts I get to enjoy regularly. They were so good! And, I mean, they have the trophy to prove it. The director announced that this year was the first year they got Division 1 at UIL Sight Reading Contest in 17 years! And they have the chance to win Honor Band too. I personally think they've got it in the bag.
This band has come so far since I was in it 3 years ago. When I was a senior, we had about 20 members and the director didn't even see a reason to take us to UIL contest. I was one of only a few students that competed in UIL Solo/Ensemble and ATSSB Region Band. The change in success for this music program is phenomenal. I am the proudest alum right now.
