what i’ve learned so far in high school
1. life is bigger and better than you would think. there are so many opportunities thrown at you in high school. either take advantage of them or don’t, but you’ll feel better if you do.
2. just try it. that thing you can’t decide whether or not to do, just go for it! if you end up liking it then you just acquired something new to do and you found a new part of yourself that you didn’t know existed before. if you fail, then take a step back, look at what happened, and move on. don’t let it stop you from trying the next new thing.
3. everyone is doing something different. that’s going to intimidate you, but try and focus on yourself and find your own goals in your life.
4. you’re going to get hurt and you’re not going to know how to feel better or how to get rid of the pain you’re feeling. slowly but surely, you will heal and you will be okay. don’t let your pain affect the way you treat your family and true friends.
5. late night studying and cramming for exams won’t always pay off. you’re going to feel disappointment and failure when you get your grades back. no matter how many times you’ve heard it, this time you need to believe it: grades do not define you.
6. force yourself to get things done. you’ll feel 100% better about yourself. put your phone down and immerse yourself in your schoolwork.
7. do some crazy things. be wild. you only have one chance to be a teenager. go to that party, take risks, make insane memories, but be safe. don’t ruin your future because of something you did when you were young. it sounds counterintuitive, but you need to find a balance between having fun and making a mistake that is very destructive.
8. life can be so confusing at this time and you just don’t know anything. high school is your first little glimpse of the real world. you’re discovering yourself and your so-called purpose in this world. just take it day-by-day, step-by-step, breath-by-breath. you’re going to figure it out and you’re going to be alright.
