~ @danceinstituteofwa Happy Women’s HER-Story Month! This week DIW highlights the contributions of Virginia Johnson, trailblazing ballet dancer, choreographer, and journalist. A founding member of Dance Theatre of Harlem, Virginia Johnson danced as a Principal over a nearly 30-year career. She is universally recognized as one of the great ballerinas of her generation, best known for performances in Giselle, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Fall River Legend. After retiring from DTH in 1997, Ms. Johnson founded Pointe Magazine. She served as its editor-in-chief for 10 years. A Washington, D.C. native, Ms. Johnson began her training with Therrell Smith.
