1. My take on their canon relationship:

Respect and friendship…though I don’t think either would actually CALL it friendship. I think others see it more than they do. There is something about the other that makes each feel…ALIVE, ya know?

2. Do I ship them:

Not particularly, though I can get behind a good OkiSai story. I DO ship them in other fandoms, though! :D That being said, I can understand it and don’t hate it at all!

3. Reasons why I do/don’t ship them;

Do: They ‘get’ each other, and don’t try to change one another. They accept each other as they are. There is a level of respect there that you just NEED for a relationship, ya know?

Don’t: I personally like them better as best friends, almost like adoptive brothers in a way. This is mainly due to both of them being so reticent about being touched and emotional.

4. Headcanon, if any:

Romantic: Souji likes to do small things that get Saito to REACT. His favorite thing in the world is to get the unexpected laugh or a raised voice from Saito. Saito, on the other hand, likes to do things that he knows will please Souji; things like cooking his favorite food, or sparring when others think Souji should just be resting. NOT that Saito wouldn’t take Souji’s health into consideration…he just understands that Souji NEEDS to be doing something or he’ll just go downhill, ya know??

5. How much do I ship (%):

Oh, I’ll give these two a 65%….because I can see their relationship naturally moving forward in some ways. 

HijiSai

1. My take on their canon relationship:

Saito sees Hijikata as a great man….a man to be respected. Hijikata sees Saito has a fierce warrior and a tool, but also as a wise and thoughtful companion. I think Saito would find it difficult to see Hijikata as a friend, not because he dislikes Hijikata, but because he reveres him….He doesn’t see them as equals. That’s just my thought. I think Saito sees Hijikata as…Not BETTER than him….just Higher on the totem pole, so not equal, ya get me??

2. Do I ship them:

Not at all. I find it hard to see either of them moving in this direction. For Saito, it would be the rank thing…For Hijikata, I just seeing him enjoying women too much. LOL

3. Reasons why I do/don’t ship them;

As listed above, there’s in inequality about the relationship that I would find unhealthy in a romance. You can’t go into a relationship thinking you’re the lower of the two, so to speak. If you don’t feel equal….there’s something that needs to be looked at more closely. :-/

4. Headcanon, if any:

None, because I just…can’t see this one happening. Funnily enough…the Yamazaki/Saito things is very much the same as this one…it’s all about rank and who would overcome that small little hurdle.
