Thoughts on Rogelio x Kyle for the ship file
My Take on Their Canon Relationship:
Their relationship in canon is an interesting one to say the least, mostly because it’s usually a pretty subtle thing, almost entirely in the background. I know it had been said in tweets and behind the scenes stuff that they were a couple, but the show itself didn’t always make it clear. They would have what seemed to be fairly tender moments between them…but then you’d also have moments more in the focus, where Rogelio seems to treat Kyle basically like everyone else in the Horde does. Which, is to say, not very well.
Their “focus” episode of Season 4 did help with that a lot, making it pretty clear that even if Rogelio might still not exactly always treat Kyle great, he does still definitely care about him. And it seems pretty clear that those feelings are pretty mutual. Not quite sure if I’d believe they were in a relationship as of the current canon, but I do see there being some mutual affection and possible attraction between them, which could develop into romance in the future.
Do I Ship Them:
Yeah. I mean, I’m actually fairly neutral on the ship if I’m honest, but since I don’t have any “alternative” ships for them, that means I do ship it.
Reasons Why I Do/Don’t Ship Them:
Like I said in my take on their relationship in canon, I feel like it’s hard to tell what exactly their relationship is. Sometimes it feels like Rogelio treats Kyle pretty well, while other times he treats him just as badly as the rest of the team seems to. But, the recent season does really seem to make it clear that there is care between them, and I think that’s enough for me to be alright with the idea of them eventually being together.
Headcanon (If Any):
While they don’t do it as often as Adora and Catra used to do before Adora defected, Rogelio and Kyle do occasionally share a bed at night, or when they have some cool down time between training. It’s actually surprisingly comfortable, despite the combination of the small beds and Rogelio’s fairly large size. Mostly because Kyle often just ends up sleeping mostly on Rogelio, rather than next to him.
