New distraction: tell everything you love about hijizu 😚
...... WOW. Where do I start ????
They. are. such. a. good. match ? I mean... no matter the route or adaptation, they always get close to each other. ALWAYS. (Sure Chizuru is Hijikata’s page but still, they grow close for plenty other reasons). Even if not always romantically, they always end up sharing a special bond and I think that’s beautiful.
I still stand by everything I said here but I’m going to add more yelling under the cut because you asked for it.

I already said it but... I actually started shipping them after watching Hakumyu Kazama-hen (because there were no subs for the Hijikata-hen yet) because they share so many scenes. Hijikata was incredibly supportive of her. There is this scene where Chizuru starts doubting her place in the Shinsengumi (I don’t remember when exactly). Hijikata notices she’s troubled and asks her what’s wrong. She tells her she doesn’t know where she belongs anymore so Hijikata asks her what she wants to be: a human or a demon ? Chizuru isn’t sure because despite being raised as a human, she still is a demon. To which Hijikata says that everyone consider them to be fake warriors but from his point of view, they are real warriors, more than many. And when Chizuru firmly agrees, Hijikata answers: “Then it’s the same for you. Who cares if you’re a fake human ? We’re all fakes here, in the end what matters is what you think of yourself. If you want to stay, stay. We want you here.” AND I THINK THAT’S BEAUTIFUL AND YOU KNOW, HIJIKATA IS USUALLY SO ROUGH AND SO BLUNT SO CHIZURU KNOWS HE ISN’T LYING AND MEANS THOSE WORDS AND I THINK IT’S EXACTLY WHAT SHE NEEDED TO HEAR AND SPECIFICALLY TO HEAR IT FROM HIM AND I’M CRYING. And then there’s the end of the hen which I love despite being so tragic because everyone in the Shinsengumi is supposed to be dead and Kazama kisses Chizuru and asks her to come with him but Chizuru is hesitant. Then Shiranui comes in and inform them that there’s a man with white hair causing trouble to the imperial army and Chizuru understands it’s Hijikata and rushes to him, not even hesitating for a second, therefore leaving Kazama alone on stage which to me just screams that he is no match compared to Hijikata. (Then Kazama kills Hijikata in front of Chizuru despite her begging not to so she refuses to go with him because uuuh yeah, that was kinda rude, and tells him that she will keep living among humans. You know... like Hijikata told her she could do earlier. This is KAZAMA hen and she chooses to follow Hijikata’s life advice rather than the life Kazama chose for her and I also think that’s beautiful.) (I also love that she chooses to remain forever alone than go with Kazama but that’s another story) This hen feels like Chizuru’s love story with the Shinsengumi except the Shinsengumi is symbolised by Hijikata.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT ? This is not something we only find in this one route!! In Hakuouki Kyoto Winds, the normal route feels like a second version of Hijikata’s route with yet another unrequited love ending (I haven’t played the second part yet). I mean. Read this. And tell me they are indifferent to each other.

(Hijikata being super soft and kind to Chizuru is also something you can notice in Saito or Okita’s route for example) (it’s the two I remember most) (also probably in every other routes but my memory is blurry) (just like Chizuru is always worrying about Hijikata and notices that he constantly kills his own feelings for the sake of the group)
Other points worth mentioning:
- THE FATE OF THE SHINSENGUMI DEPENDS OF THAT TEA (and every other jokes around meals and tea)- Hijikata telling Chizuru on multiple occasions that she can come to him to vent (including in one of Heisuke’s bonus!!!) (in the mobile version of the original game) (it’s a cute little bonus in which Heisuke tries to do something to cheer Chizuru up but every time he thinks of something, another member of the Shinsengumi does it first and Hijikata is the one telling to Chizuru that he’ll listen to her whenever hhhhhhhhhhhh) (Saito helps her taking care of her kodachi, Kondo gives her sweets, Yamazaki asks her help for medicine, Okita takes her on a stroll and Sannan offers her a fancy hairpin, I love this bonus. Anyway. Not the point.)- They are both so stubborn and won’t let others take care of them. And yet. They always take care of each other. They both always notice when something is wrong with the other and refuse to turn a blind eye to it. They are always searching for ways to force the other to accept their help. I stan this kind of relationship.- “There is no beating Edo women” shifting to “There is no beating you” in Ezo and Chizuru being absolutely merciless to Hijikata. Good. Good good good. “If you don’t want to drink my blood then start taking care of yourself, dofus!” (okay she doesn’t say it like that but that’s the idea)- Hijikata sister complex- DUMB WRITER COUPLE OH MY GOD THEY’RE SO PERFECT (THANK YOU FILLI IT’S BEAUTIFUL). Also. All the poetry analogies. Fhkjzh. Sakura out of season. The spring moon. Yes please, fill my heart with beautiful images.- “I am yours so it’s my duty to wipe off your tears.” “Then you are mine and you have to share your thoughts with me.” YES THEY BELONG TO EACH OTHER NOW AND THEY CAN LIVE HAPPILY IN A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP BASED ON COMMUNICATION AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING- Chizuru instant crush on him and how she always mention how beautiful he is. Special mention to Iba who is described in his own route as “almost as gorgeous as Hijikata”. Get the guy Chizuru!- The way. Hijikata. looks. at. Chizuru. with the most. tender. and. loving. gaze. and its obvious. he worships. the ground. she. walks. on. and wants. to. protect. her. more. than. anyone. Demon Vice-Commander, my ass, this guy is super cheesy and melts whenever Chizuru is around
- THEY HAVE A KID ???? WOW BLESS! FANDOM, GIVE ME MY HIJIZU BABY! (so many good fanarts on pixiv, I love) (I need Reimeiroku so much, if only for that one ending)- and all the angst potential that goes with it because Hijikata dies so soon ahah yes break my heart game, I asked for it
Seriously. They bring so much to each other. They are a perfect mix of opposite personalities and similar affinities. They work nice together because they’re both caring and decided but each in their own way. They are exactly the kind of strength and comfort the other needs to keep moving: Chizuru shows Hijikata other ways to live than through the Shinsengumi, Hijikata offers Chizuru a place she belongs to. Chizuru is a constant support to Hijikata, even when everything around him crumbles. Hijikata allows Chizuru to offer her help and make her feel needed instead of being a burden.They truly complement each other so well.
They are so pure despite all the angst and suffering I want to cry. I WANT THEM TO HAVE BABIES AND THEY HAVE!
But also they are so dumb and frustrating (PROBABLY ?!) but it’s even more satisfying when they finally get together.

I think many of you know that I love the idea of modern Hijichi meeting through a writing club or being internet friends like in You’ve Got Mail. So now, imagine:
Hijikata and Chizuru are co-workers (where ? I don’t know yet although as I type those words, my brain just shouted “flower shop!!!” and uuuh I love it), Chizuru is probably a newbie, a little intimidated by others (most think she got there through relations because her father is an important investor when in reality she hasn’t seen her father in months but she doesn’t know how to stop the rumors. Anyway!)
They also both happen to have a writer blog (Hijikata pen name is obviously Hogyoku but I don’t know yet for Chizuru (something with cranes would be a little too obvious. Rabbit on the moon ? Tsuki ?) and they end up befriending each other through there, not knowing of course of each other’s identity. (We all know Chizuru is a better writer (and Hijikata loves her writing) but she still likes his poem and she especially loves his book recommendations and critiques) (yeah idk). Through their writings, they end up sharing more and more personal thoughts and insecurities and encourage each other a lot.
But! one day, either because of something she shared or because while searching for something else he accidentally founds one of her notebook, Hijikata realises his internet friend (crush ?) is none other than Chizuru! Wow wow wow. However, he decides to keep silent about it because he also realises that if it weren’t for those internet discussions, safely hidden behind pen names, he would have never known what Chizuru is thinking, how down she is at times and how loneliness is eating at her (because let’s face it: Hijikata keeps telling her in canon to confide more and that she can rant to him whenever but it’s not something Chizuru is good at. She always internalizes)So, little by little, he tries to be more friendly with her at work and to pay more attention to her feelings (also to get others to be kinder) (because everyone loves her but they’re all a bunch of idiots) while pursuing this internet friendship. And of course he grows more and more attached to her and falls in love but he’s very good at ignoring his own feelings + he thinks Chizuru is in love with someone else!
Because yes, Chizuru starts falling in love with Hijikata and his rude kindness (also, flowers suit him well) and she feels a little lost because she kinda has a crush on Hogyoku too. And she doesn’t think she has any chance with him because duh. It’s Hijikata. He’s unreachable. The fact that he softens and starts being nice to her is enough. Until... thanks to a certain someone (*cough* Souji *cough*), she discovers Hijikata’s haikus. BADABUM TSS! Once she has fully accepted the fact that Hijikata and Hogyoku are the same person, she decides to keep the secret as well. AHAH. Because just like her, Hijikata is an idiot who doesn’t know how to express his emotions and she realises it’s the only way he’ll let her help dealing with his problems.
I don’t know for how long they will keep this confused flirting online and at work but I bet it’s for quite a long time and everyone is absolutely done with them because they’re so obviously in love but nooooo they can’t act on their feelings (so hum yes, they are cockblocking themselves. 100%. Those idiots.)I’m still not sure how they’ll get out of this (imagine them getting together irl and therefore turning the other down online oh my god, they’re a mess afjkhs) but you can be damn sure there’ll be fireworks when they do because IT WAS ABOUT TIMEAlso a bunch of flowers. Fireworks and canon flowers at their wedding. Please thank you.

I was your Hakuouki Secret Santa this year, I hope you’ll enjoy this short poem about the beautiful ship that is Hijichizu!
(It is rather vague (because I’m better at writing reverie than an actual fic with a plot) so you can imagine pretty much what you want on it, even the actual couple ^.^)
I wanted to post this earlier but I didn’t had any access to internet yesterday, sorry about that... I hope you had a great Christmas and happy New Year to you in advance :D
I’m sure I can do an AU!Coco for Hakuouki with O-bon (this tradition shares similitudes with Día de Muertos) and a descendant of a captain and Chizuru or their historical crush who discovered his ghosts ancestors (and also ghost Shinsengumi).
I hesitate with Masa/Harada or Heisuke/Chizuru. I must confess. Even if Hijizu could be nice. Or even Hijimitsu. Or I could use Chizuru who tried to connect with her heritage with Yukimura Kazuya. Or just saying but Kotsune/Shinpachi with Oiso could be a niiiiice version and a little bit in-character (Masa/Sano and Shigeru is also perfect).
