Located on the corner of 13th and D Streets, the Buchanan School property has a long history. Made up of four buildings (two school buildings, an interstitial building, and an auditorium) built between 1895 and the 1930's, the 2.13 acre site was home to the International Graduate University (IGU) since Dr.
The former site of the International Graduate University will be converted to single-family condos and townhomes. The projected completion date is March 2018.
Since 2013 a group of Kingman Park residents has protested plans by developer Taiwo Demuren of 57th Street Mews Inc. to replace the property located at 1511 A Street NE with a five-story, 18-unit condominium.
This spring, Hill East community members met with developer Taiwo Demuren and his consultant, Toye Bello, regarding plans to demolish the house located at 1511 A Street, NE and build an 18-unit condominium. Many neighbors raised concerns about Demuren and Bello's backgrounds, past work, and potentially illegal plans.
On June 11, Capitol Quarter residents gathered at 200 I Street, SE for the second community meeting on the Capper Community Center. Located at 1005 Fifth St. SE, the community center was part of the DC Housing Authority's (DCHA) HOPE IV project, which included 1,700 rental and home ownership units and office and retail space.
In the basement of Capitol Hill United Methodist Church (421 Seward Square SE) neighbors gather in the fellowship hall for Community Night, a new program given by the Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM). Tonight the topic is chronic homelessness.

The DDOT approved the permit on Friday, May 2nd despite legitimate concerns from the community and ANC6A regarding density, inaccurate measurements on the developer's plans and serious concerns about the permit approval process within DCRA.
We have asked Bello & Demuren for a copy of the actual plans they've submitted to DCRA so we can begin to work with them based on an honest assessment of what they intend to build. To date, they have not responded or offered to show the community these plans.

On February 26, residents gathered at the Northeast Library to review and discuss the redevelopment project located at 700 Constitution Avenue. The project, set to open next summer, will convert a portion of the property into 143 luxury apartments.
On November 21 at Payne Elementary School, a standing-room only crowd attended the second meeting regarding the Barney Circle and Southeast Boulevard Transportation Study.
