Although I am happy to be on a much needed vacation, I'm bummed about missing the @hill_cdc's 30th Anniversary Celebration tonight at @awc_pittsburgh where I will be recognized as an Emerging Pioneer in Civic Leadership. I am humbled and honored to be acknowledged among a list of giants who have been toiling in the field for and with the people for decades. My hope is that God will continue to do a new thing in and through us all in service to the Hill District community. In addition to FIRST COURSE and OV COURSE this semester, the UDBS is advancing work on the August Wilson House. Using precedents from around the Hill District as well as ornamental pattern books from the early 20th century, we are revising the window hood design to better reflect what they might have looked like during August Wilson’s childhood. Unlike the other elements on the August Wilson facade, there is little to no record of the window hoods, beyond that they existed, so much of the design work is informed by historical research and neighborhood context. Through full-scale hand sketching we can test proportion and scale of the ornament to get a better feel for what the hoods may have looked like.
