“you're talking on the phone and your lover quietly comes up behind you, wraps their arms around you, and starts gently kissing your neck. you begin to lose focus on your phone call as you concentrate on not making any noise.”
if it inspires anything <3
for you drew, of course!
Buck winced, as his phone rang, quickly silencing it so that it didn’t wake Eddie. He usually had it set to do not disturb, but he must have forgotten in the haze that last night had been. Carefully, Buck peeled himself out of Eddie’s grip, and out of bed, only pausing to shimmy a pair of shorts over his hips before he padded down the stairs. He couldn’t help but smile to himself as he drank in the state of his apartment – there were clothes everywhere, Eddie’s sweater on the kitchen table, Buck’s jeans discarded at the base of the stairs, all a reminder of the fact that last night, he’d gotten to take his best friend in the entire world home with him.
Buck had wondered, sometimes, how it all might go if he was ever lucky to call Eddie his own. He’d wondered if it would be a passionate confession at an inappropriate moment, or if they’d fight, and yell.
In reality, it had been quieter, than that, the culmination of months of them slowly trundling in the same direction, towards a relationship and forever after. They’d been at their favourite bar, celebrating Maddie’s birthday, and Eddie had sidled up to Buck at the bar, and in that quiet, gravelly tone of voice that Buck hadn’t yet come to know so well, he’d asked Buck to take him home – and well, Buck had obliged.
They hadn’t kissed in the Uber, though Buck had wanted to, Eddie’s hand resting in the empty seat between them as they sat, silent, letting their driver navigate them through the late-night streets of Los Angeles. Buck had itched to take it, to wrap his fingers around Eddie’s and squeeze, but he knew if he did, he’d try and jump Eddie’s bones in the back of the car, and Buck was keen not to lose his Uber rating.
He’d kissed Eddie at the front door of his building, though – soft, and sweet, the kind of first kiss he’d always dreamed of having. (“A last first kiss,” Eddie quipped, cheeks flushed and his eyes bright, and not from alcohol, no – from love, Buck knew. It was in that moment that Buck realised that Eddie Diaz was a cheesy romantic, and he was going to get to love a man like that for the rest of his life.)
Buck had kissed Eddie in the doorway of his apartment building, and he’d pressed Eddie against the wall of his lobby as they waited for the elevator, and he’d pulled Eddie into the elevator by the wrist and kissed him as the elevator stopped on every floor, creaking to a stop on the fourth floor, the two of them stumbling down the corridor to Buck’s apartment.
(“We should talk,” Buck murmured, pressing the words into the seam of Eddie’s lips.
“We can talk,” Eddie nodded. “Tonight, and tomorrow, and every day for the rest of our lives,” he reassured. “But Buck, I’ve wanted you for so long – can we just…” he trailed off, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, looking uncharacteristically bashful. “Can I have you, finally?”
Buck had take a second to kiss the memory of those words off Eddie’s lips, the question delicious. “You’ve always had me, Eddie.”)
Clearing his throat, Buck stepped out onto the balcony, shivering slightly as the cool morning air hit his mostly naked body. “Morning, Maddie.”
“Morning, Evan,” she replied, her tone pointed. “I’m glad you’re alive.”
“I texted you, to say that I was leaving,” Buck pointed out. “You knew I was alive.”
“I don’t think ‘gone home, love you’ is enough of an explanation as to where you disappeared to on my birthday, Evan Buckley,” Maddie retorted. She sounded good-natured enough, if a little peeved her only brother had skipped out on her birthday party early.
Before Buck could reply, the noise of the sliding door opening again drew his attention, and he couldn’t help but smile as Eddie emerged. His hair was ridiculous, standing on end, a mixture of sleep tousled and just plain tousled from how much Buck had ran his hands through the other man’s hair the previous night.
He looked happy, though – contented, in a way that Buck wasn’t always sure he got to see so often from his best friend. Buck was glad, to be the reason for the contentedness.
Eddie was quiet, as he joined Buck, warm arms wrapping around Buck’s waist. He could feel the scratch of Eddie’s stubble, the facial hair faint but the growth still there on their third day off of four. Eddie rubbed his face against Buck’s back, sending a ridiculous shiver down Buck’s spine – and that was before he started pressing kisses to Buck’s spine, lips moving slowly over the ridges of Buck’s back.
“Buck?” Maddie’s voice sounded further away than it had been, a minute ago, and Buck realised he’d let the phone slide away from his ear.
“Sorry,” Buck apologised, breath catching in his throat as Eddie’s ministrations continued, his best friend – boyfriend, now, though they hadn’t had that conversation yet – kissing along the stretch of Buck’s shoulder, moving confidently to the groove of his neck. “I’m here.”
“Where did you go last night?”Maddie repeated her question.
“Tell her,” Eddie murmured. “I don’t mind.”
Buck let out a shaky breath. “I, uh,” he tried, his brain feeling scrambled, Eddie’s hands and mouth everywhere all at once. If this was how it always felt, Buck wasn’t sure he was ever going to be able to get anything done ever again. He was just going to spend the rest of his life wanting to be kissed and held by Eddie Diaz.
“Buck?”
“I left,” Buck blurted. “With Eddie.”
Maddie’s silence felt overwhelming. “Like – with, Eddie, or with-with Eddie?”
“I don’t,” Buck managed to swallow a gasp. “I don’t know what that means, Maddie.”
Maddie sighed. “Is Eddie with you right now?”
“Y-yes,” Buck nodded. “Yeah, he is.”
“Oh my god, Evan, don’t answer the phone to me when you’re having sex, you weirdo!”
“I’m not having sex!” Buck couldn’t hold back the offended reply. “Jesus, Maddie, I wouldn’t do that.”
Buck could feel Eddie’s grin against his neck. “But he will be having sex in about five minutes,” Eddie said into the speaker. “Happy birthday Maddie!”
Maddie groaned. “I hate you,”she said, pausing for a second. “But I’m happy for you – both of you. Now goodbye, I am going to scrub the image of you fucking your best friend from my brain.”
Buck couldn’t help but laugh, as he hung up, Eddie continuing his assault on Buck’s neck. “Eddie!” he tried to sound accusatory, but he couldn’t keep the delight out of his voice. “I thought we were going to talk.”
“We can talk and have sex,” Eddie grinned. “It’s called multi-tasking, Evan, have you heard of it?” he teased, stumbling slightly as he stepped back into the apartment. Come to bed eyes were something Buck had never seen on Eddie before, but he could get used to them – he really, really could.
Buck shook his head, laughing. “I hate you.”
“No,” Eddie smiled sweetly back at him, everything Buck had ever wanted wrapped up in one beautiful, gorgeous, kind-hearted man. “You don’t.”
