being HiMERU's childhood friend includes...
let's say the two of you were under the care of the Priest after he ran away from home.
given that you're the only one around him at his age, it's pretty natural that you become friends and bond fairly well.
he trusts you a lot and often talks about his mother very fondly. you don't really pry why he's with the Priest when he was so happy with his mother and just assume his father had something to do with it when he never talks about the man
thus, growing up together allows the two of you to share a lot of your interests, so the actual himeru (not kaname) either has interests that is very closely aligned with yours or straight up shares them with you.
when he's told about kaname, he wastes zero time telling you about kaname and how excited he is to be an older brother, even though he literally didn't know about him like five minutes ago.
when himeru starts to help kaname to regain his honor student status, he does come off controlling and rather manipulative, which you clock and point out he probably shouldn't be like that
and obviously, we often see himeru being stubborn in the game, so he pretends he doesn't know what you're talking about.
at this time, no one knows about the gravity of his actions, so the two of you think he's just ragebaiting you like usual and move on with your day.
you actually go with him to reimei, both to finally meet kaname and help himeru in the long run.

genuinely, himeru thinks he's giving you accurate signals to back off from the "himeru" image and not interfere too much, but it all translate into "i don't give two flying fucks about you" to everyone else that's not him.
himeru vs healthy communication, but he loses so bad he thinks he won
it's not until kohaku clocks him during ephemeral story like "bro i think you're a bit of an ass to this one producer that's always trying to help us and cover for us even though crazy:b is probably every producer's nightmare"
and honestly, everyone thought the two of you would get along great and act as parents to crazy:b's general craziness, but instead y'all act like y'all got divorced on the worst terms possible.
and himeru doesn't EVEN KNOW how it looks to everyone else when he's acting up like this
so when kohaku is fed up and tells him he's an ass for treating you like you're so far beneath him when you're literally just existing and trying your best to deal with this headache of a unit, himeru has a eureka moment
it's not even eureka, it's literally "omg i'm an asshole" moment
so when crazy:b is going to the hospital to check on kohaku, he takes you with him, and everyone who sees him ask you to escort him literally starts praying for your safety and wellbeing
instead of being a normal ahh idol, himeru is unfortunately infamous in the office for being a douchebag when you're around
so when the two of you are alone in the hospital in kaname's room, he tries to talk to you about his actions, and you, rightfully so, slap him.
it's out of love and also he... kind of deserves it
like yeah, not getting his cover blown is important and you're well aware of that, but also he didn't need to be an asshole over it
he LITERALLY has a whole other phone with YOUR NUMBER on it, which he can USE to TEXT YOU
he uses negative brain cells when it comes to you and expects you to know what the helly he's doing
news flash: you're not psychic and can't read his damn mind
he doesn't even try to say anything when you go on about how rude he is to you for the past year, when all you did was do nothing but try to help him and his unit
i mean he can't say anything to defend himself because if it got so bad to the point kohaku had to clock him, he knows he deserves the lecture
when you ask if you ever did anything wrong, or even why he's treating you like your friendship meant nothing, he assures you that's not what he meant to do
as gently and comfortingly as possible, he explains that he wasn't trying to hurt you, he was paranoid about getting his cover blown and was trying to warn you about it
to which you look at him like, "you have a separate phone with my number on it. you couldn't have told me any other way?"
he can't defend himself when you ask him that, nor when you smack his head for being an s tier idiot
so himeru, in a moment of panic thinking he's going to lose the one and only person he actually considers his friend, blurts out that the feelings that's been marinating for 500 years
and then he has the audacity to be shocked when you tear up and smack him again, saying that his words hurt even more bc you felt the same, and then you had to spend a whole year wondering if he was even worth pursuing
mind you, the two of you are tearing up and himeru is just a ball of apologies and sitting there pouting at kaname's bed side.
when you go and sit next to him, he opens his arms to you for a hug and you stare at him like he grew another head
you still hug him back tho
and in the heat of the moment, he presses a kiss to your head and apologizes for hurting you time and time again over his own selfishness.
because between losing you and giving himself some wiggle room in the "himeru" image, he'd rather break character once in a while to keep you with him
after that, though, he does soften up to you a lot to the point it gave people whiplash
ibara is literally doing math equations in his head because how do the two of you go from looking like one-sided hate to almost fawning over each other in a day????
you have to sit him down and tell him what happened bc himeru ain't saying shit
he poured all his honesty into his talk with you and isn't willing to spill the tea with other people
