Prompt: HINABN with Hanna patching ... up after an encounter, but ...'s eyes are dimmed and he might not make it?
“Hey! Stay with me buddy, Im gonna get you fixed up- d-don’t even worry!”
The words seemed foolish at first, how would he leave? But as each one settled into his parched skin, with its new rips and tears and shredded layers, their meaning seemed to change. He didn’t think dying would be an option available to him, but he could be wrong. He felt wrong.
Hanna’s hands were full of magic, their glow and crackle something he could only vaguely distinguish. Muted and far away. He felt the magic move across his numb body, felt with sudden vivid pain where it settled where bones had been splintered, where flesh had been torn, the pain was insurmountable and coloured everything for an instant. He wanted to gasp for air, make a sound, but his body didn’t. His body was dead. The pain slid off, as if it had never happened, but everything was darker, faded and blurred.
He remembered what it had been like to sleep. To slip into dreams. He never remembered until now.
And it hurt still, not as vivid and shocking as when the magic tried to mend him, but it still hurt. Hanna was speaking but he couldn’t hear the words, the notes and tones like colours behind his eyes. It hurt, the injuries his dead body took, but what hurt more was the pitch in Hanna’s voice. The look in his eyes when vision allowed him to see his face. That pain was something he was not prepared for.
He thought he had nothing in the world of the living. That he was untethered and unclaimed. But he was wrong.
He never before had consdiered he could die again. Never thought about how fa he could push the corpse he inhabited before it would give up. He wondered where he would go now. What was left of him. Whatever was him and not magic and secrets and mysteries.
He couldnt see, couldnt hear, everything became colder and for just a moment he could make out Hanna’s face. Just a moment Then it was over.
It was over.
