Going back to coding
Years ago, I started to learn how to DIY code, starting with CodeAcademy.com. However, after I was let go from my job at Rubenstein Communications, it was grind time. After filling out the NY State unemployment application, I decided that I didn’t want to be receiving any money from the government and that it was time to go out and earn my own money.
This decision to take the hard road ahead, meant that I had I would have to stop programming. While I could have kept doing an hour a day, I ended up learning more about content marketing, web analytics and search engine optimization.
From there, after hooking up with the Wix Lounge NYC support team, I entered the world of web design. From there, I learned that the mass market customer cares about how things look before how they work...and to make things look good is a process.
I had to slowly get into sketching. I learned to enjoy the patterns, textures and shapes of art. I began to pay more attention to the world around me.
While I have a long way to go in terms of designing beautiful websites, I’ve gone back to coding. I really need to learn how to build, now more than ever, I believe.
I’m now relying heavily on Dash by General Assembly. While I loved CodeAcademy, I am blown away with my experience with Dash. With both platfroms, I should be really moving in 3 months.
