Ginny Weasley After the Battle and Beyond - a slowly growing Hinny romance with some plot.
Ginny as she develops, changes, and achieves in various arenas, negotiates her relationships (platonic and romantic)
This is a modern Muggle AU, as requested, and written for @hinnypositivity. It can count as AU and cliche. It sort of takes place on an American college campus, just because I am not familiar enough with a British one.
“C’mon Ron, answer me, you little piece of –” Ginny stopped herself as Luna, her new roommate, wandered in from the hall. While Luna appeared to be a little eccentric, she did seem nice, and Ginny did not want to come across as too hostile. Especially not on their first night as roommates.
It didn’t matter, as Ginny was sent to voicemail the next moment. She hung up quickly, and tossed the phone down onto her bed with a growl.
“Still can’t get a hold of your brother?” Luna asked.
Ginny shook her head. “No, and he isn’t answering any of my messages.” She picked up the phone again and sent Ron a quick ‘ANSWER ME’ text, but did not expect a reply to that one, as the last 22 had gone unanswered.
Shortly after their parents had left after dropping Ginny off for her first night at college, she had started unpacking, only to discover that Ron had taken her suitcase of clothes with him to his dorm, and she was stuck with a bag full of his things. She had been able to contact Fred and George, who found it hilarious, but was unable to get Ron to answer his phone and come bring her things.
“You can borrow my pajamas for tonight,” Luna said, pulling a long nightdress out of her suitcase.
Ginny smiled. “That’s sweet of you,” she said. “Do you have an extra set?”
“Oh, no,” Luna said. “Just the one. But I prefer to sleep in the nude anyway, I think it cleanses your body.”
Ginny stared at her in shock for a moment before answering. “No, Luna, you can keep your pajamas. I’ll just wear one of Ron’s t-shirts.” She pulled out a large red shirt with the school’s lion mascot roaring on the front. “See, its big enough for me to wear,” she added hastily, wanting to ensure that Luna kept her clothes on. “I’m sure Ron will answer me by the morning.”
With that settled, Ginny got ready for bed, sending one more ‘I’M GOING TO KILL YOU IN THE MORNING’ text to Ron before falling asleep.
When Ginny woke up, she checked her phone and saw that Ron had answered. But rather than groveling for her forgiveness, he merely said, ‘oops. come to my dorm. gryffindor hall 702’
Ginny growled and rolled out of bed, stomping loudly on the way to the bathroom. By the time she emerged, Luna had woken up and was busy stringing lights from the ceiling. Ginny looked at the clock and groaned. “Damn, orientation starts in an hour,” she told Luna, grabbing her phone off the bed and rushing toward the door. “Going to get my clothes, be back soon,” she said, ducking out the door.
It wasn’t until she was halfway across campus that Ginny realized she was still wearing Ron’s t-shirt, but considering it was so big that it hung down to her knees, she hardly cared.
She rushed into Gryffindor Hall, and jammed her finger impatiently in the button for the elevator. A group of boys standing around the front door were grinning at her, and Ginny was starting to wish that she had put on her clothes from yesterday before she came over.
The elevator arrived and Ginny got in, along with another girl. The girl gave her a quick look over and smirked. “Walk of shame on the first day back?” she said.
Ginny began to answer when the doors opened and the girl got out, sending her one last grin. Ginny groaned as the grills shut and banged her head back against the wall, waiting for the elevator to climb to the 7th floor.
When she arrived, Ginny walked down the thankfully empty hall to the second door, but froze before turning the knob. Remembering that she was not at home and that Ron had a roommate she was not related to, she decided to knock instead of just barging in. When she did not get an answer, she slowly opened the door and slid inside.
Both beds were unmade and empty. Ginny looked at them. Ron’s was easily recognizable by the bright orange sheets of his favorite sports team. The other one belonged to his roommate Harry.
Harry, Ron’s insanely attractive roommate, whom she had never met but felt like she knew because she had heard enough about him from Ron and Fred and George. Although, that could have been a result of Facebook stalking him all last year. Or that time she had accidentally almost liked his Instagram selfie from 42 weeks ago.
Thankfully, Harry wasn’t there, but neither was Ron. Ginny approached Ron’s bed and looked around for her luggage, finally finding it peaking out from under his bed. Shaking her head at her brother’s oblivious tendencies, Ginny bent over and started tugging the overstuffed bag out from under the bed.
“Ron, do you know where I put my –” the voice came from the doorway, and Ginny spun around quickly. Harry, who looked even better than his Instagram pictures, stood there, looking at her skeptically. “You aren’t Ron,” he said.
“Neither are you,” Ginny responded. Suddenly self-conscious, she pulled on the hem of her t-shirt, thanking heaven that she had at least put on a bra.
“Well, that’s true. Let me guess, you’re an attractive cat burglar come to steal all that we own,” Harry said with a smile, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall.
Ginny blushed slightly at “attractive” and shook her head. “Sorry, I’m just Ron’s sister, come to reclaim my luggage full of clothes that he accidentally took yesterday.”
Harry laughed. “Not as exciting, but it’ll do. And I guess it explains your outfit choice.” He came over to stand next to her. “Let me help you with that.”
Together they tugged the luggage out from under the bed.
“I’d forgotten that Ron mentioned that his sister was coming here,” Harry said. He stuck out a hand. “I’m Harry.”
Ginny laughed as she shook his hand. “I know,” she said. “I’m Ginny.”
Harry furrowed his eyebrows. “How did you know?”
“I’ve heard about you from Ron. And Fred and George.”
“All good, I hope,” Harry added, and Ginny just smiled.
“So where is Ron?” Ginny asked. “He told me to come over this morning.”
“Probably went to say good morning to Hermione,” Harry said, rolling his eyes. “She lives one floor up.”
“Ah, Hermione,” Ginny laughed. “I’ve heard a lot about her too.” They sat in silence for a moment, and Ginny was unsure what to say. What do you say to someone you already know nearly everything about?
Harry cleared his throat. “Alright, truthfully, I knew who you were. I’ve sort of… checked out your Facebook. And Instagram.” He was sitting with his head bowed, rubbing the back of his neck, and Ginny couldn’t help but grin.
“I must say I’m guilty of that as well,” she confirmed, grabbing ahold of the handle on her luggage. “Well, I should go. I have orientation soon.”
“Right,” Harry moved aside so that she could pass, and she was at the door when he called her back. “They let you off for lunch, don’t they?”
Ginny turned to look at him, biting down a smile. “Sure they do. Why?”
Harry scuffed his shoe against the ground. “I just thought maybe you would want to join me. For lunch.”
Instead of answering, Ginny grabbed his phone off his desk and put in her number. “Text me, and I’ll let you know when I get out.”
It wasn’t until she got back to her dorm, changed, and followed Harry on Instagram that she heard from Ron. ‘ur going out with harry??????’
Smiling, Ginny sent him a quick reply. ‘thanks for stealing my luggage’
None of the Death Eaters moved. They were waiting. Everything was waiting. Hagrid was struggling, and Bellatrix was panting, and Harry thought inexplicably of Ginny, and her blazing look, and the feel of her lips on his–
