All that Manang Bing and Monong Toto could save before evacuating from the typhoon were their birth certificates and the clothes on their backs. Typhoon Odette completely destroyed their pumpboat—their means of livelihood—as well as their clothes and belongings. Yet, they have been nothing but selfless and were quick to take action on facilitating emergency relief operations in their barangay. We are so grateful to these community leaders and will continue to work with them in developing sustainable plans for disaster preparedness and mitigation here in the grassroots.
