For my top surgery I had to have post op drains under the skin on each side of my chest to collect the fluid and it drained into bags, but I only had them in for two days. This time for lipo I've had a post op "binder" around my hips the whole time, and a lot of people have something like this after top surgery rather than drains. Online a lot of people are anti-drains when it comes to top surgery, and I see why because they're a bit freaky and getting them removed was a bit grim but honestly I preferred my drain experience by far to this post op binder. Personally I got swelling and fluid buildup both times anyway, but with the drains I started to feel normal again almost as soon as they were gone, but having this binder squeezing me the whole time means that I'm constantly in pain. Or I was until a couple days ago, now it's more uncomfortable and sometimes painful but it's getting better. The surgeon said you need to it hold the skin in the right place so it heals properly, I'm not really convinced seeing as I didn't for top surgery which conceptually is quite similar. But I'm stuck like this anyway because it's not worth risking messing up my results. It's just a bit miserable, but it's not for long. I can't wait for the swelling to go down though
