I collected a lot of companions in Hiram's inventory over the years, it's about time I wrote a post about the ones included in my headcanon. Feel free to snoop under the cut if you're interested in Hiram's connections:
Helena Honoria Hastings Hargrave is canonically Hiram's (100% real) daughter. She recently moved to the townhouse after finally reuniting with her long lost (and 100% real) father.
The Quiet Deviless has her own Townhouse, but she's Hiram's canon companion in a lot of social situations, and she can often be seen at his place [Scandal is increasing]
The gaggle of urchins who reside on the Townhouse roof recently welcomed An Urchin with a Fondness of Cowls and Capes in their ranks. Sometimes she visits Hiram in person to ask him all sorts of questions. Like her, he seems to remember more things than most people.
The Overgoat started following Hiram around just the other month, when hell and the Brass Embassy were nowhere to be found. Hell and the Embassy have been found now but the goat demon decided that the Townhouse was cozier. There's devils around all the time so it feels just like home.
The Midnight Matriarch of the Menagerie of Roses also thinks that the Townhouse is cozy and she benevolently allows humans to hang out with her so she can later hang out in their dreams. She tolerates devils because they're warm and they increase the cozy factor.
Sugarplum is Hiram's beloved dachshund. Sugarplum is Morgan's beloved dachshund. Sugarplum is Giorgione's beloved dachshund.
Mystic Raven Advisor (Allan) + Devious Raven Advisor (Edgar): one of them always lies and one of them always tells the truth. Or so they say.
A Bat with Attitude resides in the attic.
Hiram's Lyrebird comes and goes freely from Parabola, mimicking singers and melodies as she flies around. Her name is Maria because I had a specific voice in mind: Maria Callas
Hiram's Acquisitive Magpie Advisor initially tagged along with him because he seemed someone who gets into places with pretty things to steal, but Hiram ended up turning its eyes from gold and towards the true treasure: secrets (quoting the in game descriptions). It likes to hoard flickering things and secrects now, the Townhouse is a perfect nest.
The crew found a Salt Weasel near the Iron Republic and collectively decided to make it the ship's unofficial mascotte. It's not very cunning but everyone loves it <3
An Almost-Tame Blue Prophet followed Hiram on board after he climbed atop the summit of Gaider's Mourn. It squawks a lot and it shrieks the names of those about to die. Usually Hiram's. The crew loves it. Hiram can't get rid of it.
An Inquisitive Lamp-cat also found its way on board from Gaider's Mourn and it's now a permanent resident on the yacht. The cook adopted it. Sometimes it follows Hiram at the Townhouse to get some fancy treats. The Townhouse cook adopted it too.
A Seven-Throated Warbler is the Red Knight's close companion and heraldic animal.
A Focused Albatross resides in Hiram's parabolan camp. It never speaks. The Seven -Throated Warbler always speaks in its place.
A Storm-bird always follows the Red Knight in battle. The Seven-Throated Warbler prefers to stay safe.
The Efficient Commissioner was the first true friend that Hiram made just after the fall, she helped him a lot back in the day. They always kept in touch, even if the Commissioner disapproved of Hiram's willing corruption arc. It took a while, but after the Railway she realised that he truly cares about London, and they're slowly getting back on friendly terms. They usually meet for tea, they're comfortable enough to be their most genuine selves around each other.
The Gang of Hoodlums (technically an affiliation) are Hiram's oldest associates, they met via the Cheery Man. A few of them ended up working for Hiram but they all have more or less the same age so they're mostly retired by now. One of them is Hiram's Disgruntled Butler.
Hiram teamed up with a Talkative Rattus Faber once and it was the most ineffectual, vexing and overwhelming decision ever. It wasn't a problem for Hiram because that level of annoyance can usually be felt in the deepest depth of one's soul and as we all know Hiram is soulless, but the little guy was definitely too verbose to be actually useful. They ended up confusing and overwhelming every single person they came in contact with.
The Scuttering Company is definitely more useful.
The Revolutionary Firebrand is both a solid revolutionary contact and a social acquaintance.
The Stoic Classicist is still alive and well and works in Hiram's laboratory. He funds all her research.
Verity of the Savage Lily is one of Hiram's many hellish contacts. She pops up at his parties every now and then.
Hiram freed July from the fingerkings, allowing her to regain her sanity and freedom. She's a valuable collaborator on the Railway Board, and almost a friend.
The Clay Corroborator corroborates Hiram's statements when needed.
The Pirate-Poet is Morgan's first mate. Hiram met her for the first time on Morgan's clipper and sometimes she hangs out at the townhouse if the rest of the crew is there. The Quiet Deviless read some of her terrible poetry to her and the Pirate-Poet tried her best to be polite about it.
Hiram is in contact with the Tiger Ministers from the foreign office. They don't interact much except for official ministerial business.
Hiram knows the One Who Pulls The Strings in New Newgate. The One Who Pulls The Strings knows Hiram. No one else knows this.
There's an Unassuming Judge who's well renown amongst high society and around the Evenlode. After Hiram's notability increased he crossed path with the Judge at the Shuttered Palace. Turns out they were old study buddies. Sometimes they meet for tea and a chat. The Judge politely ignores Hiram's scandalous reputation and criminal record.
The Contrarian and Hiram love to engage in long-winded discussions about everything and nothing in particular, to the dismay of everyone around them. They also love the Railway. And Revolution. Their views don't necessarily agree on a lot of things, but they respect each other's unofficial work.
Hiram has a Working Relationship with the Precocious Tosher (also an affiliation), which mostly includes telling her great fun stories. She has been unofficially adopted by the Disgruntled Butler. She likes him very much but Hiram tells better stories.
