Wallenda Completes Skyscraper Wire Walk, Later Trips and Falls in Parking Lot

Nic Wallenda, who would probably have a much larger family if his relatives had been landscapers and not high-wire walkers, completed his blind-folded high-wire walk between Chicago skyscrapers on Sunday Night with millions watching from around the world..

He later admitted to reporters that he tripped and fell while walking to his car after the performance.

“This should be a lesson for us all,” opined a clearly-chastened Wallenda in a press release.  “I was busy texting selfies I took of me tap dancing on the high-wire when I apparently tripped over a poorly-tied shoelace. Obviously glad it happened on the ground and not up on the wire!”

High Wire Act

Imagine a high wire artist. Darkness envelopes the big tent, a single hot beam of light penetrates the poor soul who places that first foot onto the cold, hard wire. Arms extended. A deep breathe in. 

Walk...balance...wobble *gasp!* ...balance...breathe...walk. 

They could probably do it all in one smooth go. They've done it a million times in practice. But, they instead choose to play with our emotions.

Everyone thinks they are going to see a catastrophe and no one can turn away. 

Live musicians can learn a lot from circus performers. 

Stepping onto stage is like stepping on to a tightrope. All the rehearsing is done to give you confidence, not a free ride. 

You must sign a contract with the moment. You're signing up for the mistakes as well as the triumphs.  The gasps as well as the applause. 

People can stay home to listen to the CD. You have to put on a show that only the people who made it along got to see.
