WIP for a pov Usopp comic just about what they brought aboard, expect it when i can.
You’re really good at pretending.
I’d know, I can act with the rest of them. But, you’re in a different league.
What I did for selfish fears, you do for self preservation, or maybe it’s one and the same. What scares me however is that I’m unsure.
I watch you switch hands when they eat. How you pause to time your bites of a meal you can’t even taste, just so you line up to the person next to you. How you don’t move your head but in little bobs, in acts deemed unnatural, and I know you can see me too. You can see us all, and you’re getting good at acting like us all as well.
I guess it comes from loosing yourself, loosing everything, maybe I’d be like you if I died as well. But, what really scares me is what if I wasn’t, and the monster has just gotten good at playing human.
I’m scared of what we’ve invited on the ship, and what we felt sympathy for, because maybe it knows that emotion too well already.
I’m scared of what sits across the table, nested between my Captian and my crew like a tick. What eats like us and laughs like us down to the bubble of their laugh and the way they place their napkin down.
I’m scared of your pretend, because how much of you is just that. When does that end and you begin.
