Richard Ovenden, the senior executive of the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford since 2014, has penned a gripping narrative on the historical penchant to destroy “offensive” books, Burning the Books: A History of the Deliberate Destruction of Knowledge.

This is the Willard Library in Evansville, IN. 

And, this is the library founder’s daughter, Louise Carpenter, (aka The Grey Lady), who may haunt the library, b/c her father left all his money to it, although the staff says she’s not an angry spirit, so there are other theories, plus other spirits including a little boy, that have also been seen. 

The library has embraced the spirits and installed ghostcams that you can watch, on their website. As a librarian who works in a 150 yr. old library myself, I find this totally fascinating.

Ohhhhhh my god, what??? What kind of frigging books are you reading?? What kind of frigging books are they making??? That's repulsive.

Anyways, yes there's about 700,000 volumes of Medieval Literature from the African continent gathered here from Timbuktu, which was the site of an enormous Medieval University.

Brief post with sources on the dismissal of African Literary History by European and Eurocentric academia.
