So there ain't nothing here yet but heck it, if you wanna help me change that then let's get some mutuals established!
I really hope you don't take this as a hate message, but I am just confused with the concept of being kin. I don't really understand how it works. Do you, like, see a character and relate so much that you consider them being a part of you, or litterally you ? I'm sorry if it's offensive or with the wrong vocabulary I just want to understand.
No, no, that’s fine!!! As long as someone isn’t intentionally rude + is willing to learn, I don’t mind at all!!
Alright so.
There are two different types of kin. Coping kin or spiritual kin. I am the second and that’s what I’m going to talk about, because that’s I am + know.
Spiritual kin have the belief that reincarnation + the multiverse ( or the theory that there are infinite universes, all different in either a small or large way ) are real. They believe that the characters they are kin with are who they were in a past life. That character’s experiences + memories are part of your soul, but you are different from them ( unless mental illnesses cause you to not have an identity. then some people take on that character’s personality + use it as their own ).
So spiritual kin would see a character and have memories ( either concrete or vague, since memories in general are really weird ) of being that character.
That’s just the general basis. Some people’s beliefs are that simple, but some get more complex.
I hope this helps!!
In your opinion what is the relationship between language and the formation of stereotypes ?
imma refer back to a conversation in which i said how im leery of people that want to learn French but wont learn Spanish and this being possible indication of classism and them thinking Spanish is inferior due to the association of many working class families in this country that speak Spanish so they think that due to this, its the language of the common and uneducated. “Unrefined” language. This of course is false and form of racism. Spanish and English are languages that have been imposed on people of color via colonialism. The forming of vernacular of these languages were to be expected. Mexican Spanish and Dominican Spanish, while both derive from Castillian, are very different and one has words that would not be found at all in other and vice versa. The formation of stereotypes occurs as one of these words, perhaps even accent, or speech pattern are imitated to make the potential listener recall a certain group and so then a sort of generalization is formed by this which is basically the function of stereotypes. Often times, this sort of thing is used to ridicule and humiliate a group for not speaking “correctly” the language of the colonizer. Don’t fucking try it. AAVE and Spanish dialects i.e. vernacular are what connect people in a group to each other and are perfectly valid. Also Castillian sounds mad ugly lmao. FIN
