i have a lot of thoughts about how 'don't you forget (reprise)' reflects vox's volatile nature

we've been told that vox and alastor 'remember the flashback scene differently'. i think it's pretty obvious that there was some kind of fallout immediately afterwards that we weren't shown (alastor mentions 'the tantrum you threw after -- now that was entertainment!'). but i think a crucial part of that scene is how vox's expression changes at the very end of the flashback:

he goes from this silly, chirpy guy who does impressions to make alastor laugh to this angry, vindictive man who throws a 'tantrum' when rejected -- when his feelings are genuinely hurt and he's feeling most vulnerable. i hope in future seasons we find out exactly what vox did immediately after this scene, but based on this and what we know about vox up to this point (i.e. his human life) i think it's safe to say it was pretty violent.

i don't think this was vox's whole personality changing as a result of one rejection. i think it was more like vox letting his true colours show after who-knows-how-long of sucking up to alastor because he genuinely wanted to be with him.

that's also how i feel about 'don't you forget (reprise)'. the first part of the song is pretty jaunty, not particularly threatening. he drags alastor around like a ragdoll, dances with him, toys with him a bit but doesn't actually hurt him (similar to rosie, hence the reprise of her song). you could even read vox's mannerisms here as affectionate, or at least a mockery of affection. but it's only when alastor prods at one of his insecurities -- 'you still need me like you did before' -- that vox really switches up. we go from rosie's cheery tune to the power-hungry 'once we get up there' melody, and suddenly the playful attitude is gone and vox starts genuinely torturing alastor with electricity, using more violent and hostile language ('you're my bottomest bitch'), and making outright threats ('you'll wish that you had stayed gone'). he completely switches up in the blink of an eye, just like he did in the flashback when he didn't get his way. i think this is the best reflection of vox's nature being that of a 'hurt little boy' (CB's words) -- the need to lash out whenever his insecurities are targeted.

i really really hope this is explored more in future seasons! is he going to pull the same shit on the people he loves now (val and velvette)? are they going to stick by him or are they going to make sure he knows exactly what will happen if he ever tries that 'might of lilith' shit again?

vox not being abandoned by the two people closest to him, even though he nearly killed them and himself over a 70-year-old crush-turned-grudge. val and velvette being pissed but staying by his side at his darkest moment. versus vox being ruthlessly shut down for suggesting a partnership to alastor and internalising it for decades. i hope this heals something in him
