You may have read this one already, but Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George is a book that's been on my radar for a long time, among people who liked the same type of books I did as a child. And it turns out that it's a lot like the type of books I read as a child! It's a fairy tale kingdom that's quirky without being a parody, and as someone who doesn't usually like dragons (the main reason I've never read it before), this one has some interesting and likeable dragon characters, and a pretty solid plot. It's worth a read.

2 - What movie have you watched most recently? What did you think of it?

So most recently the last movie I've seen was Tom & Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale, and it was a wonderful bit of joy for the holiday season. I admit to not watching movies regularly, and I'm not going to count the ones my mother watches at meals as I do not sit through it all, and my back is to the TV.

5 - What's your drink of choice? (Coffee/tea order, alcohol of choice, pop, etc)

Water, Mt Dew Code Red, Tea: Earl Grey - Hot in that order. If I have alcohol it is likely Blackberry Brandy or Whiskey Old Fashioned. Dr Pepper is a good secondary soda. Default daily drink is water through out work, with Code Red at meals.

13 - what's something you learned recently?

I learned that I work best with a loosely structured outline for stories, where I can pluck points to work on and slip into the working document.

I also learned, or relearned rather, about the WW2 era Entrenching tool having not only a shovel mode, but also a pick/hoe mode. It's also lighter than I though at 2 1/4 pounds instead of my guess at 4.

It came to my attention that Starcraft is Warhammer 40K with the numbers filed off. This was alongside learning more about the lore of Warhammer 40K, and coming to appreciate it from an outsider point of view. It speaks to my dice goblin instinct.

I learned that there needs to be a term in English for the emptiness of a room after taking down the decorations for Christmas. I suspect there will probably something in German or other languages. I don't think it's the post-Christmas Blues, but just that the room feels… empty. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Playing a oneshot with some friends this weekend where we each made a PC for someone else in the group to play. I got @hobbitsetal so I made Zaray Rosales, an eladrin arcane trickster rogue with an urban bounty hunter background for her!

After we'd all made the characters we found out that 3/4 people made rogues. So we've got a party of 3 Rogues & a Paladin LOL

To be fair to MWT, it was an act of self-defense. I, uh, kinda made the first strike.

Gather round, mutuals, followers, random passersby and I shall tell ye the tale. It started innocently. There was a lovely post going around.

What wit and japery! Said with all the confidence a person who has multiple stories that haven't seen an update in years. Surely this is fine and my favorite author in the entire world will not see the goof I just made at her expense.

But it was a little too late for that.

Next thing I knew, I was getting a lot of asks and messages telling me to check Megan's tumblr. I checked Megan's tumblr. She had decided to fight back:

I'll be honest, I've never been fully sure how to parse that. But--the actual devil giving a skeleton my name? Not a lot of positive interpretations there. Still, I wasn't complaining. Y'know, not to be like "Megan could step on me (or chop off my hand) and I'd thank her", but, I would. And I did start it first.

And, after all, she did keep her promise:

So about a month ago @hobbitsetal​ posted this in response to getting tagged. I didn’t get tagged, but it’s been living in my head (rent-free) for the past month, so i went ahead and answered it anyway.

Most of these are older examples that have been in my head for literal years, despite not having heard/seen/read/whatever the source for almost the same amount of time.

1. "Oh no, I've never been embarrassed. I'm just the man who tried to introduce himself to the redheaded woman sitting in my kitchen, only to learn she was my wife." "I'd forgotten about that." "I never will."

- an exchange from a Christian romance novel, The Princess, by Lori Wick. For some reason i really liked it when i was younger, though my memories suggest it was overall fairly generic clean Christian romance. This was a good moment, though, that apparently i will never forget, either.

2. "SPEAK THEE 'WHO IS PRIMARY' AND I SHALL GIVE THEE BLOODY TEETH!"

- an episode of Adventures in Odyssey that i don’t know the name of; it was an adaption of the short story “Gift of the Magi”. I’ve only heard it once, randomly on the radio, but several bits of it were quite memorable.

4. "I don't have to listen to any stupid girl! Not even you!"

- the Wonderworks adaption of Caddie Woodlawn. Said line is spoken by a bullying boy, while pointing to the teacher. It is followed by the one-room schoolhouse’s shocked gasp, and a look of horror on the boy’s face before the teacher drags him out of the room by his ear.
