Does anyone else ever think about Hera's place in Greek myth?
Like, I cannot imagine being the goddess of marriage and being married to one of the most well known adulterers in history. That just screams of disrespect towards Hera from Zeus. She is literally the Goddess of Marriage and her own marriage is a train wreck.
I doubt that even if they had a positive, loving relationship (and I definitely don't think they don't have one) I can't imagine that wouldn't cause issues.
And for example, in the Iliad, Zeus actually threatens to strangle her in public for talking back to her!
From the Robert Fagles translation:
"Always your [Zeus'] pleasure, whenever my [Hera's] back is turned, to settle things in your grand clandestine way. You never deign, do you, freely and frankly, to share your plots with me––never not a word!"
Then after some back and forth about Zeus scheming with another goddess to turn the tide of the Trojan War in Achilles favor. Zeus says this to stop her pestering him about it:
"Maddening one...you and your eternal suspicions--I can never escape you...Now go sit down. Be quiet now. Obey my orders, for fear the gods, however many Olympus holds, are powerless to protect you when I come to throttle you [emphasis added] with my irresistible hands."
And after that insane sentence, Homer helpfully tells us that Hera went silent and was terrified. Like, how fucked up is that?! You cannot tell me that Hera isn't in an abusive relationship after reading that.
My final attacks for Artfight 2024!
(Top) A silly one of @cutieacefuck's lanturn character. Vee's used her powers to give them legs instead of his typical fishtail. "Legs!" but she is not gonna tell the poor thing how to use her new legs. Why? Because mischief.
(Bottom) @v-poreons's Siofra and Hoch (in her giant form) trading trinkets (Hoch got her a fluffy scarf) and Siofra's showing Hoch this cool wooden dragonfly. No one told Xusu (for scale) that they were meeting in the mountains not that there would be two giant women.
(Hoch's giant form has two sets of wings, the top wings are cedar branches and the bottom wings are feathered sleigh runners. These wings, I discovered, are easier to imagine than they are to draw.)
his name is Hoch and he holds your organs for ransom
