It's funny, I saw it differently, but I think part of that is because of one clip that PJ didn't include. It's this one. I see Ringo as being extremely flirty and soft and loving in that clip. He seems to really care about MLH.
There's of course the moment where MLH says that he loves Ringo, and that they should get married. It's important to remember that Ringo responds with "I love you too." Also Ringo was REALLY against Libya, he only finally said yes because Michael begged him sweetly. I don't think he would have said yes if he felt nothing for Michael.
And finally, this was in a newspaper when Let It Be came out. It's an interview with Ringo from Melody Maker July 31, 1971
Ringo was exceptionally hurt that he wasn't in more of the film. And I don't think he talked to Michael after this.
The way I read it is that he and Michael had something special and he was really hurt thinking that Michael cared about Paul more.
And it's funny, watching Get Back, it seems like they were both pretty attracted to Paul and spent a lot of time staring at him together. That that was something that bonded them, but I guess, after everything, he didn't remember that in 1971.
So I hope that explains a bit about why I think that it was more than just an unrequited crush from Michael.
