hiya!!! when i tell you i absolute BEAMED when i saw this - always so lovely to see folk interested in deaf/hoh dean! alas there is not very much content at all that i've found (other than what i have made myself eek) to the extent where i tried to make a deafnatural reading list and had like three fics lol.

god there are SO many good flavours of hoh dean. teenage dean being told by john that he never listens enough and that he can't afford to be lazy when he's hunting or it's gonna get sam killed. stanford era dean trying to find company in bars and not being able to fully hear people and getting into fights because they take his repetition of what they're saying as attitude. s1 dean with sam constantly nagging him to go the doctors to get his ears checked. s3 dean scrapping all his plans to get hearing aids because he's about to die anyway. s4 dean having completely healed hearing and it becoming so overwhelming that it makes it harder for him to function until he tells cas to put it back the way it was. he then feels guilty for it after, but not enough ask cas to change it. s5 dean wondering why on earth he is the perfect vessel for michael when he's broken. s8 dean in purgatory terrified of keeping watch over benny at night because it means he can't see or hear what's around him. s10 dean running around as a demon without inhibitions and thinking fuck it i'm gonna get hearing aids i need to be able to hear crowley over the karaoke machine. when he becomes human again he keeps them but can't quite find it in himself to use them. s11 dean meeting eileen and going Oh. maybe. maybe there are other people, hunters, like me. s12 dean having to tell mary that he's hard of hearing and feeling bad because it's another difference between the dean mary knew and the dean he is now. post s15 dean finally with a full support network learning how to use his hearing aids properly. he and sam learn asl for eileen but dean finds that actually it helps him massively too, and he and cas start using sign supported english in their day to day lives. he gets to love and accept it and taking his hearing aids out becomes peaceful and comforting, a quiet world of his own in the house he made. there is just so much THERE

dean finds speaking so hard. after mary died he didn't talk for months, he finds it so hard to verbally communicate his desires and fears, he hates speaking when he's on the verge of tears because the way his voice wobbles makes him feel even weaker. but physicality comes so naturally to him. he's always doing something with his hands. so when he learns sign, everything becomes easier. he hasn't got to force words out through his grating throat, he hasn't got to worry about the way his voice is giving his vulnerability away - he can just communicate with his hands, express himself the way that's always come most naturally to him. god gave him quick clever hands to hold a gun or knife. but dean uses his hands to say "i'm sorry i couldn't say this sooner" and "i love you"

jo finds it really weird that dean is always staring at her lips in the roadhouse (especially at night after a few drinks) because he acts so brotherly with her the rest of the time and has never properly hit on her so she's just getting these really mixed signals and is always kinda confused about it because she definitely told dean she was a lesbian right until she notices the complete blankness in his eyes when he laughs at something she said and how he always repeats what she says back to her as a question after she said it and she manages to put it all together and go OH he's actually not hitting on me, a massive lesbian, but just hard of hearing. okay cool mom can we turn the music down in here a bit
