Oh, hey, I forgot to tell you that because of that anon who asked, I'm going to write more chapters of "He Remembers" 😊😊
Yeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
I’M A GOOD WRITER, SERIOUSLY! MEME
the mission, should you accept it, is to stay positive about your writing and yourself, but to also be fair about your shortcomings.
(stolen from an ask thing by poeguesquadron2, ‘cause I just wanted to talk about this for fun)
(my fanfics can be found here)
of the fic you’ve written, which are you most proud of? Hm, good question. I’m always really proud of whatever I’ve finished last, especially if it was a long story or if I was trying something really new or crazy. For the sake of the meme, I’m going to saaaaaaay eyes blue like your ice cold heart. It was completely different from everything else I’ve ever written, and even though it was crazy dark and ugly, I’m so proud for taking the characters through hell to set them down safely on the other side.
favorite tense (past/present/future) This is barely even a question, haha. I am all about the past tense. Soooooometimes I’ll branch out and use present tense, but I have to psych myself out for it.
favorite POV (first/second/third/etc) Third, absolutely! I like playing around with second person, but I can barely do a small oneshot in just second person, much less a whole story (but who does that, anyway?). First person...makes me think too much of whiny YA protags, haha.
what are some themes you love writing about? MM TALK DIRTY TO ME. I love writing about how people work, so I like getting into convoluted, gritty stuff. A lot of my work focuses on the various relationships people have, healthy, unhealthy, romantic, fraternal, platonic, etc, anything. Self-improvement, self-validation, and so on also frequently feature. It’s all about figuring out who and what a person is and if and when they want or are capable of change.
what inspires you to write? All sorts of stuff! It all blends together to make this thick inspiration stew, haha. Good, solid stories that just GET me really inspire me to write. It doesn’t matter what kind of story, whether a novel, a movie, a song, a play, as long as there’s a solid story and characters I’m in. Music in general plays a huge part, words or no, but physical locations also play a big part. I love sampling places and things and making them my own in my work.
thoughts on critique It’s important, but ooooooh does it burn XD I love getting feed back. I love reading what people like or were moved by in my stories, but seeing what mistakes I’ve made is super good, too. I’m sensitive, though, so I have to work hard to not take criticism personally.
create a character on the spot…. NOW! WHAT NO. I clearly did not read this all the way through :’D BUT DUDE LET’S DO IT. His name is Alexander. He is short and stocky with a lot of freckles and reddish brown hair. He has an expressive face (not helped by his big, green eyes), but he’s not really comfortable with it because he wants to come off as serious and tough, but he absolutely doesn’t look it. He loves the thrill of adventure, but he haaaaaaaaaaaaates the anticipation of it. He’s in his late twenties and he deeply appreciates beauty in all forms.
is there a character you love writing for the most? the least? why? This is actually really hard! I write for Natasha Romanoff a lot, but thinking about it, I don’t have any deep affinity or passion for her. Huh. Hm, I do like Matt Murdock because he’s so FASCINATING. There’s something very delicate about him that I love, but there’s also an aggressiveness to him that’s amazing. Felicity Smoak is just a delight to write for, because she’s just so quirky in her astuteness. But...I think the all around best for me is Claire Temple, though. She’s sassy and caring and so hard core, what an absolute doll. I love her so much. Yep, Claire’s it.
a passage from a WIP YIKES okie dokes. Excerpt from i love you in colors the eye cannot see. "You know," Matt said, reappearing from his bedroom. He had somehow managed to change into his work clothes and was already putting on a tie, "if you'd like to take a nap here, that's fine." "You'd make your home a nap station until Wednesday?" Claire asked, making her voice disbelieving, even though she knew that yes, yes he would. "Maybe not until Wednesday, but for today, yeah. I'll be at work, so it'll just be normal New York noises," he told her. He seemed casual as could be, offering her his bed as he adjusted his tie and smoothed down his collar. "Just sirens, cars, and construction every second of the day," she said, earning a wry smile from Matt. "Seriously, stay here if you'd like." Claire watched him, weighing her options. The law abiding citizen in her said no, she should politely decline his offer of silk sheets and down blankets and return home. The exhausted nurse that had just come off a graveyard shift said yes, yes, hell yes, she would take his deliciously comfortable bed and not wake up until he came home that night. And he didn't have a colicky baby upstairs. "And you're sure?" Claire asked. Matt grinned as he slipped on his shoes, knowing he'd already won the battle. "Absolutely. The bed is yours." "Okay," she said slowly. "Okay, thanks." "Not at all. It's the least I can do after all you've done for me." “Actually the least you can do is take it easy," Claire corrected, standing up to see him off. He shrugged into his suit jacket and reached for his cane. Claire reached up to smooth a bit of his hair that was sticking up. "Thanks," he said, flashing her a smile. He stowed away his keys, phone, and wallet, then said, "You're welcome to anything in the fridge, you know where the spare blankets are, and if you need anything else…I'm a phone call away." "Alright," she chuckled. "Now go on and save the world." "One court case at a time," he agreed. Matt gave her a soft butterfly kiss of a smile that she loved. Claire smiled back, wondering if he could feel the action in the tiny shifts of the air, hear the miniscule sounds of her lips moving up. She could kiss him goodbye, Claire realized. Just like the last time she had seen him off to work, she could bid him farewell with a soft kiss. Only this time it wouldn't taste of copper and suffering. It would be so easy, leaning across less than a foot. He would stay still, he would let her hold him back and run her hands through his hair— Matt opened the door, cast her another goodbye smile, then left. What the hell was wrong with her? She was way too tired to be thinking if she let herself be carried off on some stupid, frankly dangerous fantasy (for the second time in two meetings, no less). She needed to calm down and go to sleep. Claire toed off her shoes and then gave in to the seductive call of Matt's bed. She half skipped to his room, drew the blinds, then flopped onto the bed. As Claire shimmied under a spare blanket, she wasn't sure which was better—the smooth touch of Matt's sheets or instantly being enveloped in his scent.
what are your strengths wrt writing? I...hm. Let’s see. I’m good at conversations, stylized imagery, fluff and cuddles, and aaaaaaaaaangst.
what are your weaknesses wrt writing? This is much easier to answer, lol. I’m HORRIBLE at action sequences. Like...I can get by, but yikes, at what cost. I dunno, I’m not good at describing the visuals of a story. I have a pretty solid picture in my head, but I psych myself out when I get to describing them. I feel like I’m using up space for the meat of the story, haha. I’m sure there’s other stuff, but I can’t think of them :o
what’s your favorite place for writing resources? I...don’t know? For just writing resources I like a few blogs on Tumblr (like this, this, and this one), but for clothes, locations, etc I go to Pinterest. Everything else is handled by Google!
who are your favorite writers? For professional writers, I LOVE Marissa Meyer and Cinda Williams Chima. They made amazing worlds and lovely characters, I hope to be like them some day. Lin-Manuel Miranda is also the bomb diggity (HOW DOES HE DO IT???). For fanfic writers, I loooooooove Shazrolane (@shazrolane), red_b_rackham (@redrackham87), NeonDaisies, and JulesInk. They just *clenches fist* get me.
Be free, my friends. Take it and answer all these questions if you so desire. The world is your oyster. Find some pearls.
